Gallifrey's most famous adventurer will feature in games on two Nintendo platforms, the BBC has confirmed.
The BBC has reportedly plunged over £10 million into the development of games for Nintendo's Wii and DS platforms. The games are reputed to involve the eleventh incarnation of the last of the Time Lords, played by actor Matt Smith.
Actor David Tennant, who played the Doctor before his regeneration which was screened on the first of January, said previous attempts to launch a Doctor Who game had struggled as developers wanted the pacifistic character to fight opponents. The BBC will monitor the game to ensure violent content is low. There won't be a shortage of enemies, as classic villains including the Daleks and Cybermen and lesser-known foes such as the Silurians are lined up for the game. A BBC source said, "BBC Worldwide, which licenses BBC shows, has been trying to find some way of doing it. But you can't have Doctor Who blowing things to bits with a laser gun. That would massively change the nature of the show."
The Beeb also said they're going for the family market, as Nintendo's appeal and Doctor Who's reputation as a family programme would go well.
Nintendo has agreed a contract said to be worth over £10million to create the much-anticipated game for its popular Wii and DS consoles.
