February 2010 has been the most successful in the Xbox 360's history, Microsoft has announced. NPD figures show that the console sold over 400,000 units, outstripping its competitors. CEO Dennis Durkin linked the success to the anticipation of Project Natal.

Microsoft has revealed that last month was the most profitable February in the Xbox 360's history. According to NPD figures, the console outsold its competitors in the hardware chart with 422,000 units shifted. The platform also enjoyed considerable success in the software charts, capturing four of the top ten positions. BioShock 2 was the bestselling 360 title of the month and third-party game sales exceeded $170 million (£110 million).

Holy crap! It beat everything except the DS?

Nice! Shows that the 360 is still going strong even though it's the oldest of this gens consoles.

I reckon. Beating the Wii is quite an achievement (no pun intended), and it's always nice to see it beat the PS3 at something

Whilst personally I did not like Mass Effect 2 in the end, I can still appreciate the production values and the sheer depth of the characters.

So I would predict the that the sales were more as a result of the fantastic review scores and general consensus that Mass Effect 2 could very well be the 2010 Game of the Year.

Microsoft are rocking along nicely. Lets hope all three companies have their share of success this year so us gamers can continue to get lots of fantastic titles!

Oh man, I loved the end of ME2. I was sitting in my seat with my hands over my mouth during the last cutscene thinking, "Don't die don't die don't die don't die."

I know alot of people said ME2 wouldn't have a big impact, but this clearly hsows that it has done.

400,000 is a nice number for a month that only had one notable exclusive release. Although I really REALLY doubt it had anything to do with Natal. If you asked a none serious gamer if they'd buy an 360 for Natal they wouldn't know what it is let alone want to use it.

That being said about the 400,000 units sold. Doesn't have a patch when PS3 started shipping 1,000,000 near numbers for the month before and after the PS3 price cut, slim introduction & UC2.

THATs how you sell shit XD

That seems super strange seeing as how we have been virtually out of stock of 360s around here, and I don't mean out of stock as in we get them in and sell them till we have none left. I'm talking we don't have any to sell and never get any more to sell.

Maybe there's a correlation here with people with the RROD beyond the 3 year limit.

Maybe not, since the Xbox 360 has been out for 5 years.

No shit, and right about now I bet a lot of people are gonna start getting the RROD more and more frequently and being out of warranty, NO?

SINCE the 360 has been out longer than 3 years. So it being out for 5 years proves nothing at all. In fact, it enforces my theory.

Your trying to say that the only reason the 360 sold so many units is because according to you most peoples 360 Red ringed? Wow, You really must hate Microsoft if your nit picking that much.

God damn you make the stupidest *bleep*ing comments.

I'm basing it off the fact that nothing has really come out to sell 360's in February and the fact that we did not sell 360's well at all. Bioshock 2 might have done well, but who seriously bought a 360 for it?

          No-one, 'cause it's multiplat.

I agree about FFF's comments though

Probably Mass Effect 2 had a hand, but I'm thinking these numbers should be taken with a pinch of salt now because apparently Xbox has twice the install base of a PS3...

          Right...you decide.
