Final Fantasy XIII PlayStation 3 Release Outselling Xbox 360

A report on the announcement that the PlayStation 3 version of Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIII is leading against the Xbox 360 in sales in the UK, by a very thin margin.

While precise figures for either format have not been revealed, Square Enix has announced that the PlayStation 3 format is leading the UK, split with fifty-four percent in favour of Sony’s console and forty-six percent of consumers picking-up the title on Microsoft’s Xbox 360. While many gamers may argue that this result could easily have been predicted, industry professionals would argue that sales have gone against their forecasts. Electronic Theatre contacted a number of supermarket and high street chains, and was informed that more than half had stocked more units on the Xbox 360 than PlayStation 3. None, however, were in fear of being left with redundant stock.

    This is about as surprising as Modern Warfare 2 outselling on the 360. Different consoles attract different audiences, people that have both went with PS3 due to better quality.

      No... every article has talked about the PS3 version selling better.

      There was an article that brilliantly speculated that because of the Leap Year problem it would sell better on the 360 but that's all.

    I would have said that most Final Fantasy fans bought PS3s because that was the platform the game would be released on. So you would expect this to happen.

    46% is still pretty phenomenal, though, for all the "REAL FF fans have PS3s", "360 version gimped", and "booooooooooooooooooo" that happened. Goes a long way to hurt those that were insistent the port would be a commercial failure.

    Nearly half isn't bad for a game who's hardcore fanbase is set mainly on the PS3.

    Squeenix win mostly here though.

    The PS3 is generally more popular in the UK than the 360, so that combined with the hardcore fans makes this hardly suprising. The US will likely have sales more in the 360's direction.
