In the latest issue of GameReactor, editor in chief Petter Hegewall revealed that he was blasted over his reviews of Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2, despite giving the games what he considered a good score.

Many gamers got real upset with my Uncharted 2 review. I was called an idiot (on local forums) and on an American forum when my review got translated I was called even worse things. The reactions were very strong, despite giving it an 8, which is "great" on our scale. It didn't matter, apparently it was two steps too low.

A couple of weeks ago, it was time for the release of Call of Duty: MW2. It was called a masterpiece in advance and the super high scores soon were released. I was one of those who didn't agree. The lynch atmosphere had returned. If I took every insult personally over my reviews, I would soon go under. Instead, I have last two months played those games again and thought a lot on the that genre's development. Even though I was one of those a couple of years ago that wished for more movie-like games from Hollywood, I know today that I want something else.

To make movie-like games isn't bad when you look at the sales numbers. Easy played action-adventures with directed cut-scenes and episodic high tempo variation sells like hot cakes. But is it really good for the game industry's development? Is it the right path for the action genre to go? I dont believe so. Even though CoD: MW has sold like crazy, and that both EA and Ubisoft plan to modernize Medal of Honor and Ghost Recon according to Infite Ward's market attractive concept; many of us who love the genre might grow tired of the linear structure and the self playing difficulty.

CoD2:MW and Uncharted 2 were both memorable journeys through chaotic environment, it was like watching Hollywood - matinée with your thumb on the button. I understand that a wide audience like playing an interactive movie. But I want to play something else, I want to get challenged in more ways than by unlimited enemy soldiers popping up everywhere and in every direction. For me, storylike matinée's and easy game mechanics isn't enough. I want to fight my wars and tear my hair apart by puzzles in Himalaya. An interactive movie isn't enough.

8/10 is a good score, but in comparison to other games that got an 8/10... Uncharted 2 is far above them, this is why the ratings system in the gaming industry is screwed up. Games like GTAIV get 10/10 when they deserve an 8/10...

GTA4 does kind of deserve 10/10s though - it's got a really good story, and hours of hours of things to do. Go into it with the right mindset and you'll love every second.

... really good story? You spend most of the game doing stuff that has nothing to do with the whole point of what you're there to do

I like the game, if I had to reduce myself to numerical values, I'd give it a nine out of ten, but the story is mis-matchedly poor at best.

Yeah, GTA was bad. It was billed as a rags to better rags story, as opposed to rags to riches, but after like 5 in game days I had like $300,000. It's like...really?

Large portions of the story were based on me and Roman being broke, and I was doing pretty well really.

Really though, even if you really don't like the game. Like for example, I hate Killzone. HATE IT. Even so, I can't deny the production value of it, the scope of it. I can see why people like it. Same with Bioshock, I get it, I'm just not on board.

I'm reminded of the... crap what's his name? That balding guy who I think is on G4 or something... anyway, when he and the failed model chick reviewed Killzone 2 and said it was great and got a load of hate mail because of it.

See, I don't understand stuff like this. Is it impossible for some people to realise that some opinions differ from others, and why should it bother you? I only use Metacritic etc. to see what the score is on a game I was thinking of buying. I lower my expectations accordingly - but really, if a game is getting 10/10s from every other major site, why should a lower score irritate you?

    Pointless, idiotic, fanboy behaviour.

UC2 was a phenomenal game. A gripping story, excellent controls and awesome multiplayer.

I need to buy it, I only rented it

You have to admit, being blasted over a positive review because it wasn't positive enough is generally unorthodox by any standard

True, but having a significant audience any review is bound to piss off someone. A certain choice of words, a point too high or too low, that's really all it takes to have a dozen angry letters, and lots more in many a case.

That's fair enough. If people were to say he did it too high, it would make sense, because he gave it a very good review. BUT it's ridiculous, beyond extraordinarily stupid, for people to get annoyed with a very positive review because it wasn't positive enough, is all I'm saying. It's like giving someone a gold necklace and then being slapped before they scream 'I want platinum, dickhead'.
