Always good to see FNC news.

In a recent interview with Motomu Toriyama, he revealed some small information about the upcoming games in the Fabula Nova Crystallis Series, FINAL FANTASY Versus XIII and FINAL FANTASY Agito XIII.

He stated that Versus and Agito wont be Sequels to the recently released title FINAL FANTASY XIII. They will be their own stories, but will follow a Common Mythos. Players of FFXIII will already be aware of the Fal'Cie and L'Cie. These are set to appear in the upcoming titles.

His main point of interest was the announcement that the entire Fabula Nove Crystallis Series will use the same Story-Driven gameplay that FFXIII has.

FNC Titles Versus XIII and Agito XIII are expected to appear at this years E3, though Versus may not make it.

The other detail about the series Toriyama mentioned was that, like XIII, the rest of the series will continue to focus on story-driven gameplay rather than allowing the player to explore an open world. For better or worse, it sounds like Versus and Agito will possess the same linearity for which XIII was frequently criticized.

I still do not know why Toriyama is the one doing the interview. He has nothing to do with Versus or Agito I believe. Regardless, if it is a good story, Ill be perfectly happy.

Though I am curious to see how linear you can get with an open over world map...

Indeed. If airships and world map are present, I fail to see how the game could be linear.

Agreed. I mean most final fantasy's are pretty linear. It's just, they let you meander about and give this feeling of non-linearity.

Let's take FF9. After the whole opening scene you crash in the forest and fight your way out. Then you're left in a small open area on the world map, the only other place you can go to is the ice cavern. You can choose to walk around this area here before going to the ice cavern and do some fighting, or just go straight to the ice cavern. In reality, you only have one path to go down and one final ending place, you just determine when you go there.

I don't mind this new form or linearity that Square is following, just give me more options like the old games. Like say...exploring cities for side quests? Shops? (Actual one not just a save terminal) Mini-Games like Blitzball?

Althougg I'm about 11 hours into FFXIII so maybe a city may pop up eventually but 11 hours of the same trollop on and on is getting very boring.

I am sure I read that Square Enix didn't put any cities or villages in FFXIII.
