In the latest attack on the gaming industry, Switzerland - famed for it's liberal views - has passed a draconian law which effectively bans all video-games that require 'acts of cruelty' to progress.

This is likely to affect some of the critically acclaimed games of this generation from being sold in Switzerland.

The bill, which was proposed last month, called for the ban of titles that "require cruel acts of violence against humans and human-like creatures for in-game success".

It is speculated that this means titles carrying a PEGI 16+ or PEGI 18+ certificate will no longer be produced or distributed in Switzerland.

I don't see this law doing much. I mean most countries get so much tax revenue from game sales the government would lose so much from such a bill.

Since when did people care about what the Swiss do? Probably did it so people would pay attention to them for once.

Playing through GoW III, Kratos did brutally and cruelly murder most of the people he came by (let's not forget the Hermes Scene) but it's rated M for a reason.

Hermes.. Oh how I loved that kill. Should I be saying that? Killing him in the brutal fashion we were permitted was absolutely sweet.

Lists of games allowed in Switzerland : iPhone games, iPad games, the Sims, Tycoon games, puzzles, racing, soccer...and Japanese Hentai games (hey, they're not violent games).

Seriously, 90% of the games out there are violent and brutal. So are the nightly news and newspaper headlines. Humans are violent creatures.
