With rumours rife across the Internet that the PS3 is about to plunge in price by $100 USD in the US and $150 CAD in Canada (thanks to scanned retail flyers), Sony Corp. has stepped forward to quash any such chatter with a big fat "No!" However, remember that just because Sony says no, doesn't mean that Circuit City and Best Buy cannot reduce their prices as they see fit.

Sony president Ryoji Chubachi has been nudged forward nervously by his peers to dismiss any mounting speculation that the next-generation machine will be having its price tag snipped: "At present we have no plans," to cut the PS3 price, Ryoji Chubachi told Reuters in an interview this morning.

Still wouldn't be at all surprised if they announced a cut during E3.

Sounds like they just want to wait and announce it themselves at E3. Everyone knows a price cut is coming, it is just a matter of when and how much.

I wouldn't be surpised if they did. Sony knows that people want it and saying they won't could just make them say yes as a surpise.

The longer they don't drop the price the longer they won't have me gaming on their system.

It needs to have a drop if they are going to have a successful Holiday Season.

This has been going back and forth for months now. How many times does Sony have to spell it out to these damn rumour mills? There simply won't be a price-cut this year. There'll be sales, sure, but that's up to the distributor.

I am really surprised by this, I thought Sony lowering the price at least temporarily after E3 would have given them a pretty big boost in sales

These rumors are getting pretty persistent, and I never bought any of them. THere's a fine difference between an official price drop and a sale, people....btw: how's CC's sale working out for them?

CC is bound to get some sales up with that cut, but it won't come until next week, when the sale becomes active.

Not really i heard more than 6 stores are selling at a lower price. It can't just be a sale. And i hear its doing good.

Well this was kinda expected, though I really hope they cut the price by the time E3 comes around.

Yeah finalblade98 I heard that too, apparently the pattern of stores is completely random?

There seems to be no finality as to whther there is a price cut or not... but i think from the looks of things it is most probably gonna happen... the retailers seem to be ready for it, which says a lot..
