Although still losing out to Nintendo, things seem to be on the up for Sony, with sales of their Playstation Portable and Playstation 3 rising rapidly.

The DS may still be outselling all other consoles put together in Japan, but sales of Sony's consoles were up last week according to the latest figures from Media Create.

During the week ending July 1, PlayStation Portable sales rose by 5000 units to reach 38,305, while 16,316 PS2s were shifted - an increase of 26 per cent.

PlayStation 3 sales were also on the rise, up by 20 per cent to hit 11,914 units.

Great news for Sony. Looks like there's still hope for them yet And this is only for Japan. It's bound to do better next week or so with that price cut from Circuit City (PS3). The PSP will do better next year most likely, when more titles come out.

PS2 is still a popular system for those who don't have the money for a PS3. Plus in a sense it's a good thing that Sony is releasing games for it still.
