IGN reports that the PS3 is downgrading games made for 720p resolutions to 480p instead of upscaling them to 1080 on older high definition television sets. Though the PS3 capable of displaying all levels of high definition video there has been many reports of older PS games and DVD Playback not getting upscaled at all.

IGN is reporting that people who have gotten early retail units of Sony's Playstation 3 console are finding out that older HDTVs may have problems with video resolutions in games.
