The No-Longer PS3 Exclusives Catalog

Storm | July 06, 2007 | News | Playstation 3
It's amazing how many titles that went multiplatform since the next-gen consoles arrived. I don't blame them because it'll help their sales, but that can be marked as selfish in Sony's view...as they lose out on some big anticipated games...some that made their PS2 #1.

Grand Theft Auto IV
Devil May Cry IV
Assassin's Creed
Beautiful Katamari
Fatal Inertia
Virtua Fighter 5
Game|Life has a breakdown of the numerous PlayStation 3 exclusives that might have been. The high cost of making games and Sony's slow start out of the game means that titles like Assassin's Creed and Devil May Cry IV, which may have been exclusive to a Sony console at one point, will now be leading a double life on Microsoft's Xbox 360.
"Grand Theft Auto IV -- Peter Moore shocked the world at E3 last May when he announced that GTAIV would appear day-and-date on Xbox 360 and PS3. Months later, Newsweek reported that Take Two had wanted to continue its long-standing practice of giving Sony a lengthy timed exclusivity on the game, but they didn't want it. Newsweek says that former Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi's 'radio silence' on the issue left Sony's American execs without the authority to make deals, and nothing happened. Same with ... Assassin's Creed -- Again, Newsweek revealed that Ubisoft had actually gone to Sony with an offer to make the game a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Although Sony did go through the trouble of asking Ubisoft to make it seem as if their multiplatform action game Assassin's Creed was indeed PS3 exclusive , it came out shortly after E3 that it would ship simultaneously on both platforms."

They're big top quality games in that short list there, there's even more that haven't been mentioned (Mercenaries 2 is a big one for me at least).

You got to admit people, things are looking bright for the Xbox 360 when it comes to game exclusives.

Losing those exclusives were a huge hit to Sony but good news to gamers with other consoles. Who knows though? In a few years Sony might have another awesome list of exclusives and the PS3 could be on top, we'll just have to wait and see.

It still has Resistance, though. That could become a good franchise. I am happy that these games are coming to the 360, otherwise i wouldnt be able to play them

6 franchises go multi platform but Sony announce 136 more exclusives to take their place... Basically Sony don't care they know that new franchises also count.

Yeah but they must also know that we the gamers are not going to so willingly buy into a new franchise. Games in past series that we have already played and loved = future games in the franchise we will undoubtedly buy. It's better to keep the old than to make lots of new in my opinion.

Oh so i guess Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank and the hundreds of other exclusives Sony have still have always been veterans, they have never been new... People pick up games because they like them if they didn't nothing would have a following.

Actually i only wanted to buy my PS3 for DMC4 at first.. but after seeing the trailers for Resident Evil 5 and MGS4, i kinda changed my mind... and anyway, i want to see the difference these multiplatform games are gonna have on the 360 and the PS3.. because i have a feeling its gonna be better on the PS3 in the end..

Why can't they just band together and make a PSwiiBox360?

Because many of their ideas would clash, and there'd be no competition, heh. I mean, I can't imagine playing any shooter games with a Wii-mote and such.

It looks like the PS3 only has Final fantasy XIII left. :/

Sucks for sony but hopefully with the price cut it will do better. I was actually thinking about getting GTA IV for the PS3 as I had previously played all of my GTA games on. Now however it seems as if i might just end up getting the 360 version... in fact I know I will.

Assuming that a price cut is going to happen, that's still up in the air, I think. Gotta wait until E3 to find out for sure.

Ya, If I had a PS3, I would still get it for the 360, mainly since the achievements I think are a lot better than slightly improved graphics.
