It's less about the ability to run Linux and more about the nature of what Sony is doing. They advertised that the original PS3s would be able to boot other OSs at their own leisure. With them removing the OO feature, Sony is basically saying you must follow what we say. Personally, I think if you legitimately are using Linux on the PS3, you are getting screwed over by Sony, and should probably install 3.21OO. Also, because the GeoHot hack recently came out, people want to be able to experiment: if you can make a better music player for the PS3, why not be able to run it? Currently, you can't thanks to the lack of a true SDK developed by Sony, but if there is some way people can program for the PS3, they will.

Yay! The PS3 is slowly but steadily turning into the iPhone in terms of being hacked. I Like it.

I love the excuses these *bleep*ing douches are coming up with to justify hacking the PS3 for a feature very few use. The only people losing out are the organisations that use linux for cluster computing. Guess what, they don't use the PS3 for gaming so are still most likely on FW 1.00 so this patch doesn't affect them anyway.. The rare 0.001% of gamers that actually used this feature, well then that sucks for them but really no one used this feature so no one should be upset about.

Lol, What the *bleep* is it to you? The only people who are being douchebags are the ones like you who they think they have a justification to tell people what to do with a product they bought with their own money.

Sony likely had to remove it because of the exploits Geodouche released to the public a month earlier. Sony may have perceived the use of a foreign OS as a means in which exploits can be carried out. More than likely wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for that douche rushing to become an hero.
