Could the Playstation 3 firmware update 3.21 be bricking non-Slim PS3s? That's what some owners are reporting as they are unable to turn their PS3s own or access PSN.

Owners of older Playstation 3s are reporting issues since the mandatory 3.21 firmware update was released last week. The update was meant to remove the "Install Other OS" option because of concerns by Sony after a hacker used the feature to bypass the PS3 security features. Since the udpate went live, owners on the Playstation Boards have reported numerous issues with non-Slim versions of the PS3.

So far my old 40GB is good. Although I haven't been able to sign into PSN very well I think that's because of my shitty router.

It seems like with every single firmware update theres a problem with someones console. Mine is the phat version and its working fine. Makes you wonder sometimes....

I call bullshit on this. Everyone these days looks to find a blame for a failure. Maybe their console just broke it happens from time to time. If mine broke I know I wouldn't blame the firmware it would probably be the last thing I would find fault with.

How the hell can firmware stop your console from turning on? It's not like it's magically stopping electricity getting to it

I'd laugh my box off if it turned out to be happening only to people who used the hack to bypass the OtherOS removal.

I have had problems with the new firmware, never touched the other os option. I have had 2 crashes on my system before the update in 3 years time ( after playing for 10+ hours straight). Since the new firmware my ps3 has crashed for at least 6 times in a week and always after about 20-30 minutes of playing.
I solved the problem by turning off my screensaver that was set to 20 minutes. Perhaps the ps3 tries to load the screensaver while playing games and then crashes, i dont know, but i know it hasnt crashed since i turned off my screensaver on the ps3.
Sony, if you try to remove an option in a OS, than stay the f*ck away from other options. If someone cuts my hair, i'm not happy if they cut off my dick too.
Sony just screwed up another firmware, its not the users wich are complaining that are noobs, Sony is the noob here!!!
