Wii Gets a Lightsaber Game

Storm | July 08, 2007 | News | Wii
Sadly it's not the kind we were expecting. A Lego Star Wars game is heading for the Wii, and that's okay, though I'd rather have a brand-new game than another remake, heh. Perhaps if this game does well they'll consider a deeper lightsaber game, un-lego'ed =P
When the Wii Remote was first revealed, some though of tennis while real gamers thought of Star Wars - an FPS Lightsaber would be the thing of dreams.

A re-release of Lego Star Wars might not quite be the game we all dreamed of, but it'll raise a fair few smiles with its new Wii-enhanced controls. While most of the fighting commands can still be performed by pressing a button, they can be powered up further with motion control.

The building of objects with loose Lego bricks (done with the Z button) can sped up by moving the Wii Remote up and down - emulating the motion of the little Lego Man's arms.

Force powers are also done with Z and similarly can be powered-up by directing them with the Wii Remote, while moving the remote from down to up with blaster-type characters activates their grapple hook.

Wii Remote waggle is in there too, predictably serving up the basic attacks, as well as batting away incoming laser fire with Lightsabur characters, says GameSpy.

Like we said, not quite 'The Dream' and the fact that it was designed for an ordinary controls seems to show, but it could be fun.

who couldn't of seen this coming...the Wii is built for stupid little games like this where you have to swing around the wiimote like it is alight saber...

Wait, wasn't there that video of the guy pretending he was a jedi and EVERYONE laughed at him? Yea...thats what i thought

Wow, you just proved to be a total Sony fanboy. Star Wars was one of the greatest movie series ever made and anyone who has watched them would love to wield a light saber and seeing as that is not possible the ability to use the Wii-mote to control one would be amazing.

Oh and that movie you say everyone laughed at is the most viewed video on the internet with over a billion views.

From the sounds of it, to attack you need to swing the controller like in LOZ:TP. That seems pretty cool, even though it is nowhere near as cool as being able to controle the lightsber itself.

You must be, like, the only one who doesn't want this to happen.

Why wouldnt you Jeterocks? I mean if you dont like Starwars, then thats fine, but otherwise a lightsaber game would be the best thing to happen to the wii since LOZ:Tp!

I don't care if the characers are legos or if I look stupid playing it. If it's fun, I'll get it.

Damn, I was expecting the game to be like the Arcade one, that game was awesome. Well, I see it working like LoZ's sword controls.

Well we get a lego one then it's still a good thing. We get to try the remote out as a lightsaber.

Now if they would make a Star Wars game that doesn't have Lego in it's name.

It's good to see new innovative games coming to the Wii. I'll give this a rent for sure.

First of all, Enhance...I never said the video was bad...Im just saying people laugh and make fun of the guy for pretending to be in star wars...and now playing this game...you are doing the same basic principle...

and Reenee, i never said i didn't want this game to happen either...I just said the wii was made and is perfect for dumb little lego star wars type games...which is true, hence the reason everyone wants this game on the wii...

True, the lego aspect of the game kinda kills it for me... But then again, I don't even have a Wii. I'll just make my friend Andrew buy it, then stay at his house. That way, I don't have to use my money on a Lego game but I still get to mess around with a freaking lightsaber.

If only this game weren't legos...

But hey it'll still be a great game to play.

Altough I'm not a Leo Star Wars fan, the game play sounds fun.

While this game itself doesn't sound too exciting in terms of using the wiimote, I must say that a game built just for the wii using lightsabers, like an FPS of sorts, would be really awesome.

As long as we get to wield the saber however we want, and not have preset animations like what I heard they did in Red Steel.
