Actress Gemma Arterton is set to play Princess Tamina (an updated version of Princess Farah from the game) in the upcoming Prince of Persia film. However, she recently revealed that some fans haven't been too happy with her being chosen for the role...

Now I suppose that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but as far as this beholder is concerned Gemma Arterton is perfect for the role of Princess Tamina, the character that evolved from the prince's companion Farah from the Prince of Persia video games. So the fact that anyone would take the time out of their day to write her a letter telling her otherwise boggles my mind.

According to an interview in the May edition of Details magazine, someone did just that.

quote
"I've gotten letters telling me I'm not right for the part because I don't look like the girl in the video game! She really is this sex goddess. They've got massively high standards."

I take issue with her playing Farah. Not because she isn't sexy enough, just because she not only doesn't look like Farah at all but doesn't even look like she could pass as any kind of Indian princess at all. Do her make-up right and it's all good, but no, that would be too 'edgy', let's do with her what we did with the Prince and keep her a ridiculously American looking character because we like patronizing everyone.

If we're talking Indian actresses, I wouldn't have minded seeing Aishwarya Rai play Farah. Mostly because I saw this picture on google...

      I can totally see it.

Nah, Aishwarya wouldn't be comfortable unless there were a few hundred dance scenes thrown in; she's good for Bollywood but her acting skills would be too mis-matched in a film like this.

Perhaps I'm bias due to being in love with her, but Kajol might have been able to do it Plus, not to sound shallow or anything, Aishwarya hasn't aged well (the neck flaps cometh), which would kind of negate the whole young princess thing

I guess I'm the only dude that thinks that the Prince and Princess of Persia could, should, just maybe be... I don't know...actually Persian???? I have such crazy ideas.

Some of the best looking girls in the world are Persian..there shouldn't be a prob finding a hot one for this role.

        AH ok, fair enough then.

Well still my idea about the prince of persia being Persian still stands And ya likewise, they should get an Indian woman as well for the role then , instead of some American white person with a tan. Which is ya, sort of just what you were saying.

If this was a movie about...I dunno, Genghis Khan, it would be ridiculous to have a white guy playing him -- so I don't see why it is any less ridiculous to have a white guy play as the Prince of Persia. It is a really odd situation.

It's not so much about them having to be that nationality themselves, I mean these days Will Smith is as white as a person can be yet he still portrays many black characters in films, it's just the fact they've made no effort to make them even look like what their characters are meant to be, not even giving her a slight tan or anything. If they can pull off things like Avatar making her and Gylenwhatever look like their character's actual nationalities shouldn't be hard.

A good example to compare it to would be the new Kane and Lynch film. One or t'other (whichever isn't the bald, Bruce Willis one) will be portrayed by Jamie Foxx, so they changed the character to be black. Fair enough. If he was played by Foxx but constantly referred to as being white, however, that would obviously be stupid.

I know I'm basically agreeing with your agreement with me but this still pisses me off so I felt like ranting anyway xD

Half the people saying she isn't hot enough are gaming nerds who've never had proper female interaction...if any.

Her tiny brain and Kotaku's tiny integrity are the one's saying it's to do with how sexy she is; all we've been shown is people complaining because she doesn't look like Farah, which she doesn't, not because she doesn't match her level of hotness.
