For the last few months we've all been told how much Sony lose on every console, but what if its all a ruse? This would explain why Sony announced a PS3 price cut just 8 months in when the 360 is still the same price 1.5 years in. Not likely but you never know

Sony's recent redressing of the PS3's production problems has made it profitable according to Richard Doherty, an analyst at the US research firm Envisioneering Group.

The analyst told Bloomberg that thanks to Sony's resolution of its production issues the PS3 has actually been profitable for several months, while he reckons that Microsoft loses money on every Xbox 360 it sells.

Although the article suggests that they are making a profit, nothing that Jack Tretton said mentioned that. All he said was that they were saving more money on the production costs. It could mean that say the PS3's developing price is reduced by $200 then they can lower the price by $100 which will mean that overall, they are making $100 more than they did previously, and at the same time passing the savings to the gaming community. But also, since they were making a $200+ loss in the first place, it would mean that they would still be making a profit, just less of one.

What the hell's a ruse? That does make sense, but I still think Sony's getting the short end of the stick here with their PS3 production. Only one's getting profits out of this is us, as it's a Blu-Ray player, and those alone cost a fortune.

A ruse is an action or plan which is intended to deceive someone.

The ps3 is actually booming with sales now with it price cut confirmed. So i don't think there getting the short end of the stick. MS might be since one they lost a billion. And now they already thinking of dropping the price.

This is what happens when you compare a

    rushed, sloppily made console
    vs.
a seriously thought out, buffed, beafed up, protected, revolutionized, and secured system.

Like Sony said, they're running the marathon, and one of the three contestants have fallen down. Now it's just the tortoise and the hare left.
