Games We Love but Wish We Could Love Playing

Legendary Pictures have announced they have a Mass Effect movie coming soon, penned by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend). It's uncertain as to whether it will be based on either of the games, or a new story entirely. I'm in two minds, personally - whilst I love the games, I'm not sure a movie would work given the amount of choices available and that I've become accustomed to the current actors. What do you think? Could it break the movie license 'stereotype', or could it be a sci-fi epic? Post your comments below.
The producers behind The Dark Knight and Spider-Man are teaming for Mass Effect, a live-action, big screen adaptation of the Electronic Arts-BioWare videogame.
Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni have acquired the film rights to the game and will produce the movie along with former Marvel Studios honcho Avi Arad and his son Ari Arad. BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk will serve as executive producers, as will Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson. Warner Bros. will distribute the film.

Could be great or shit, and anything in between. Well, here's hoping.
Instead, they'll probably just cut anything that's not directly relevant to the storyline. This means no subplots or extraneous characters; and all the parts in the game that primarily focused on gameplay will be left out, regardless of any great story elements included in those parts.
The only way it's going to be good is if they are willing to risk the financial investment to make it a true epic like LotR. Otherwise, it's going to be shit.
Gears is coming out next year I think? Halo's still in limbo.
