Because we're cowards who abide by what we think will make us more money now we've dipped out toe in.

I'm really starting to despise sequels these days.

I don't think they really needed to do a huge overhaul of Cole's looks just to make him likeable. I just hope they do sharpen up that face though, he looks like a softy.

More facial hair and it'll be fine.

Though they are sort of right to do this. Most protagonists are indeed moody sons-o-bitches who are moody all the time. Seldom do we get a protagonist who's more optimistic about things.

I still say Sean Devlin was the best action game protaganist of 2009, pity his game sucked.

See the problem with what you're saying is that he's not turning into something unique, he's turning from something cliche into something more cliche. Now instead of the moody, broken and ultimately realistic portrayal of how a man reacts when he loses everything he's going to be Nathan Drake, a completely unrealistic *bleep*wit making shitty jokes and dropping false charm like a waterfall

Yet Nathan Drake is probably one of the more well-known and well-liked protagonists of this generation

Doesn't change the fact he's a complete cliche, but hey if you're only hating on seriousness because it makes you look cool then by all means ignore me, I'm just worried about the actual story, afterall if the love of my life died, my friend betrayed me and I was tasked with saving a world that hated me the first thing I'd do is get a facial and smile

It might also have a lot to do with the voice actor. We do not know the full details surrounding that. Maybe he left and the replacement just did not fit the original Cole. Though it doesn't stop me thinking "if Cole is different why not just follow a new person with a different ability".

They wouldn't pick a voice actor that didn't suit Cole and then change the ENTIRE character around him, they'd just find an actor that did suit him ._. They clearly intended this.
