    I guess this is what they meant when they said they wanted to support PS3 more in the future. Good on 'em; I know it was hard for them to finally break down and start working with PS3.

    And the first game out is Portal 2, that's awesome on two different levels.

    Holy shit...Steam on PS3, that's mind-blowing. I wonder if I can access my account on the PS3.

      Apparently one of the features of this venture is cross-platform chat. I assume you'll be able to use your Steam login to then open up a chat window on the XMB with all your Steam friends and contacts. I assume the rest of the Steam service will merely be a third tab on the Playstation Store adding a more Steam like interface.

      Whether games bought from Steam on the PS3 will link in to Steam somehow on the XMB to tally the hours played etc like it does on the PC is unknown but I assume this venture will come with some big XMB additions.

      Microsoft verifies everything they aren't open enough to allow something like this (they weren't even open enough to allow user created content in Unreal Tournament 3 let alone this). It is what Gabe meant when he went on stage and said the Playstation 3 is the most open online console as Sony don't have many rules.

    Steam, on 360? Not if Micro$oft has anything to say about it!

    Obviously if they could have, they would have long ago, especially since not long ago they weren't very interested in the PS3 at all, but since Sony is more lenient they can handle someone else making money without going in a angry german kid rage fest like M$.

    This sucks to but maybe you PS3 users will no longer have horribly glitched games. And also no paid DLC, I guess I know where to get Valve games from now on, boy this was unexpected....

    I dont see how this will work? Maybe they will have separate servers for PS3 and PC. Because seriously, PS3 gamers just wont be able to compete on games like CSS where you have people who just headshot from across the map like constantly thanks to the mouse and keyboard. Like people have no lifes on CSS and just pwn everything.

    Also nearly every server on steam games are player owned and most if not all have some custom content on them which you have to download to play on the server. So people who have small PS3 HDDs might have some problems, My steam folder its self is 27 gigs.

      Has there been any cross-console gaming before? Am I missing something here, 'cause from what I know there aren't any cases of PS3s being played alongside PCs on the same servers anyway, are there?

        Most assumptions of what would happen if a Console gamer played a PC gamer at the same time are merely theoretical. There have actually been a few cross-format games for example Shadowrun and while the game was terrible there was no noticeable advantage either way it was pretty equal actually.

          Shadowrun had to add this bullet spread shit to make it fair for console gamers, I think it was something like having a circle instead of a reticle for aiming so when you shot it shot randomly in the circle and not where you where aiming to remove the accuracy advantage that PC gamers have. I remember watching it in a developers commentary thing lemmie try and find the vid. I think they added auto aim for the console players too.

          Well it's Valve. If we can trust anyone to find a way to make it work it's them, and if it can't work they just won't do it.

      That is a shitty assumption Console gamers dominate with their control schemes and PC gamers do the same with their own. Its just a matter of comfort with the controls, not one over the other.

        Yeah, but there's a reason that console FPS games always have magnetism/aim-assist.

        'snot an assumption.

        I can tell you have not played CSS ever before. It basically runs of accuracy and fast reactions and not a lot else, an area which a mouse will dominate against a joy stick. Console gamers only dominate against other console gamers.

    And here I was annoyed they had cut Portal 2 from their E3. God bless you, Valve ;_;
