So after Sony denied a 100$ price cut, they are cutting the price now. However, that will not affect the Nintendo Wii. According to the article, the Wii worths a mere 249.99$, while the PS3 still worths a lot.
It's no particular surprise that after Sony outright denied a $100 PS3 price cut to $499 a couple of days ago, they've now announced a $100 price cut.
Classy, Sony.
How will this price cut, along with the announcement of an 80GB model for $599 US, affect Nintendo Wii?
It won't.
The market has already spoken for the last eight months, and consumers have overwhelming chosen Wii. Nintendo's console is a mere $249, is both easy and fun to play, and has opened up gaming to millions of previous non-gamers.
Sony already offered a $499 PS3 when it first launched, and the public rejected it. The differences between the 20GB model and the 60GB were minimal. So there's no reason why, all of a sudden, the majority of consumers would be swayed by this announcement. It's still twice as much as Nintendo's console, no matter how you cut it.

Sony's price drop will have an effect on the market, whether anyone would like to admit it or not. Fact is, one of the things really hurting the PS3 when it launched was the high price, therefore any kind of price drop is going to generate attention. Whether that translates to sales is still to be seen, but it's a bit early to be claiming a victory just yet.
However, I think the Wii will feel the least effects of Sony's decision. Wii is still notably cheaper than the PS3, has a much more mass market appeal, and is operating on a completely different concept than the PS3, pushing control innovation before graphical power. Xbox360 is the system that will feel the biggest impact from the price drop, most likely dropping the system's price before the holidays.
Im not sure what that will do though..if anyone can even find a PS3.
The reason I posted this article is because it called my attention
