According to the Sony Computer Entertainment of America boss, Jack Tretton, sales have doubled in North America. Selling for about $500 USD sales have went way up at five of North America's leading retailers since Monday. Sony hopes to now ship 11 million units by the end of this year. Some publishers still doubt that the price cut will help Sony in the long run.
It may only be days since Sony announced a USD 100 price cut for the PlayStation 3, but according to SCEA boss Jack Tretton sales have doubled in North America, GamesIndustry.biz is reporting.
Now selling for USD 499, sales have shot up at five of North America's leading retailers.
"Since Monday, sales of the 60GB PS3 have doubled at our top five retailers," said Tretton during Sony's E3 conference.
New European PS3 pricing details are expected to be announced tomorrow.
The company said that it now hopes to ship at least 11 million units by the end of this year.
Although boosting sales, some publishers have expressed doubts that the price cut will have a significant effect on sales in the long term, with Square Enix president John Yamamoto telling GamesIndustry.biz, "I think USD 500 for PS3 is still a bit expensive for msot gamers."

People have been waiting for a price cut for ages now, so everyone will be flocking to buy one now that the price has gone day.
And 11 Million is sales well i go on a limb and saying it will be 13 million. Only cause the next price cut could be in October.
On a side note, lets all drop this "true next-gen" business. Every new console is next-gen because they are new consoles, period. All next-gen means is the new generation for whichever company is in question. The features of a console don't make it next-gen. Thats all just marketing.
