Square-Enix announced some interesting information on their upcoming MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV today. Included are details on the PC release date, an early-access collector's edition, as well as an unfortunate (though not entirely unexpected) delay for the PS3 version of the game.

Apparently the Collector's Edition is to be released on September 22, 2010, while the standard edition will see release on September 30th, 2010. The PS3 version will be launched sometime in March, 2011.

Well, at least they don't seem to be delaying the Simutaneous International Release.

Damn, if only I'd been quicker and posted the article sooner. D:

I'll definitely be getting this game when it released. ;D

Haha I know, I just swapped my reserve over to the collector's edition today. Looks like it's shaping up to be awesome. The early release date didn't hurt, either.

How come it seems the only game Square can release on time are MMO's? Seriously we've been waiting five years for Versus, but this thing is going to be out barely past only one? Kind of annoying really.

I know what you mean. In all fairness, though, they have been "talking" about this one for a while - long before its official announcement. It was referred to as the "next Square-Enix MMO" forever, and "Rapture" for a good while after that. It's nice to see a release so early in its time as an official title, however.

On the issue of the PS3 version, though, I'm personally glad they decided to at least go ahead and release the PC version, to get something on the market, rather than holding back a fully functional product because of issues in PS3 development.
