At E3, Nintendo announced their hopes for the Wii's future: to convert the world into Video Game players!

Nintendo of America Chief executive Reggie Fils-Aime claims that the Wii is "not just a fad", and that it will become the top video game console in the world by the end of the year.

Nintendo on Wednesday kicked off a summit of video game industry elite, vowing to turn everyone into a "gamer" and proclaiming this year a turning point in the industry.

"We see today as a celebration for all of us," Nintendo of America chief executive Reggie Fils-Aime said during an opening speech at the E3 Media and Business Summit in Santa Monica, California.

"E3 2007 could be seen as a coming out party for the video game industry. A time when video games take their place with movies and television as a staple of entertainment."

Fils-Aime proudly noted that Nintendo is riding a wave of popularity so strong that it has been selling Wii consoles as fast as it makes them since sales began in November 2006.

Wii is poised to become the top video game console in the world by the end of the year, according to Nintendo.

"I don't live in a cave; I know some people are saying it's just a fad," Fils-Aime said as he showed previews of Wii and Nintendo DS portable game titles to be released in coming months.
"Nintendo is not a fad. It is the future and it is little surprise the developer community is responding accordingly."

I see them accomplishing this. This console is like they said, for everyone. There's something for any age, like the WiiFit. I like the direction Nintendo's taking in the gaming industry, surely will get the non-gamers into gaming.

Nintendo's still pulling strong after so many years...amazing. So many rumours spread after their release on the N64, too, that that'll be their last console. After the success of the Wii, I doubt this is the end.

It'll be brilliant if that actually happens. For one, adults can them blame themselves instead of saying " Oo the video game made them do it ... ! "

Gaming on the Wii is fun as well, nobody should live without trying it at least once. Don't shame it until you've tried it !

I dont agree with Nintendo, even though Wii is a great console, and will be one of the greatest of all times, it will not be the best, and ABSOLUTELY wont be the best in the world, they can dream on.

Well Nintendo sure is selling a lot of Wiis, that's for sure. It is possible that they might accomplish this but it's still to early to tell in my opinion. Well best of luck to you Nintendo.

maybe not the world, but definately unsuspecting non-gamers. I just had a round of tennis, golf, and bowling with my uncle, and he was goin wild, swinging away, drinking beer, talking about how he could see himself staying up all night chilling with something lax like bowling and golf.. and how the tennis felt like racquet ball, and would be a good workout.

Well they sure will convert a large proportion of non-gamers, that's for sure. I would like to see the PS3 or 360 convert such a large mass, but they just can't seem to do it half as well.
