Pachter: Only another Blizzard MMORPG could surpass World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft has been sitting at the top of the hill of the MMORPG world since it was released. Many other MMORPGs have come and gone and failed since then. Will any be equal?

Blizzard's World of Warcraft took the MMORPG game world by storm when it was released in 2004 and reached close to 12 million subscribers by 2009. So would it be possible that another MMORPG could topple World of Warcraft? It is according to Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter. But only if it comes from Blizzard.

    You can't really expect something to just come dethrone WoW it took WoW like what six or seven years to get here.

    Between Bioware's skill and people's rabid love of Star Wars I think The Old Republic could have a shot. Once again though it's not going to be number 1 any time soon.

    The only game on the horizon that can grab some people from WoW is Old Republic. I mean, what do nerds like more than WoW? STAR WARS!
