I know that as an analyst, Michael Pachter views things through the filter of the balance sheet in the gaming world, but sometimes his statements seem overly in favor of the $$$$ over the games.

Outside of MMORPGs and Xbox LIVE, playing games online has been a relatively free experience that gamers have grown accustomed to enjoying. Now that appears to be changing with EA introducing initiatives like Project Ten Dollar and comments from the CEO of Activision wishing for a subscription fee for Call of Duty. Wedbush Analyst Michael Pachter has also been calling for publishers to move towards subscription-based online gaming as well and now he says, "Gamers, used game purchasers and new game purchasers, just have to accept that online multiplayer is going subscription. It's got to."

All setting up a subscription for individual titles would do is hurt game sales and ruin the mainstream appeal and gaming is going to go back to being a niche. I know I'm not going to and simply wouldnt be able to pay a subcription each month for all the games I like to play. If this happens especially with a lot of gamers still being below the job having age it is going to be met with a ton of backlash.

I think not, the reaction Activision got from just rumors was horrible. I do not see this happening for awhile, especially during a recession.

LMAO why not just kill online now if you want to make us pay extra for it?

Do we get a discount when we buy this game in stores? (£39.99 -> £27.99)

If it happens, I'll just stop playing.

It's nice to see that economic analysts feel so comfortable in their part in the destruction of every other possible market that they turn to games.

Gaming as a hobby is already pretty expensive and this will be the thing to break many peoples back. Youll have to buy a game+ pay for internet to begin with+ live/psplus+now this shit. Your lookin at $150 a month min if you get two games.
