During an interview with Nintendo, director Eiji Aonuma explains his reasons as to why they chose the art style they did for new Wii title; Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

"One of the reasons we’ve chosen the art style we have with Skyward Sword is that it is a better vehicle to showcase the exaggerated characteristics of some of the characters," he told Official Nintendo Magazine (via Nintendo Everything).

"Not only of the enemy characters, but as a representation of the sword spirit itself. Because of the way we have put the game together you have to focus on how the enemy is carrying their weapon, and there are a couple of different ways you can go about that.

    The Wii can't handle another Ocarina of Time. I was in denial at first, but now i must accept this disappointing truth. Maybe one day.....someday.

      That's a bit negative isn't it? I mean I haven't really been keeping an eye on this game, but a slightly changed style doesn't mean the console can't handle it. What's the difference anyway?

      Because it was clearly th art style and graphics that made Ocarina of Time a good game. Damn those tossers up at Nintendo, not realizing that the most important element in Zelda has always been the top-notch visuals.

      I like it, but I'm a bit of a fan of cel-shading. It allows you to make a more expressive graphic style while keeping it relatively simple. It's a nice break from brown and bloom all over the place.

        I love the art to be honest, but that never really influences my experience of the game.
