While the PSP camera has been spotted in Japan, some say its quality is worse than some camera phones, although its not announced to hit the U.S yet but its still unclear if it will see the light of day. It is selling for 5000 yen or $43.

It's been rumored and spotted and dated and now that it's out in Japan, it seems it's a little less than impressive. We're speaking, of course, of the PSP camera attachment, which import-focused site GameBrink declares is "worse than most camera phones on the market today."

Indeed, the 5000 yen ($42), 1.3-mega-pixel phone seems a little behind the times when standard camera phones that come free with many wireless plans sport at least two mega-pixels. The attachment will only look more obsolete as eight-mega-pixel phones eventually penetrate the mass market. What's more, the camera's video function limits you to 15 second clips, regardless of how much capacity you have on your MemoryStick, negating one of the attachment's potential benefits.

With no launch details announced yet for America, it's still unclear whether the device will even see the light of day outside gadget-obsessed Japan. Judging by this review, though, that suddenly doesn't seem like such an awful prospect

It's probably great for taking PSP resolution pictures, they probably look fantastic on that screen, but for any other purpose why wouldn't you be using a dedicated camera, honestly?

Just wait for another camera attachment. They are likely to release another with these appearant problems. Some camera phones are even better than cameras, actually, don't see why they'd compare that.

Most people already have a digital camera, so there's no use in buying one of these anyways

This report is bullshit. I have this camera myself as I don't have a regular camera, and it's great so far. First off, the part where it says you can only record 15 second clips is a lie. You can record videos as long as you want until your memory stick space runs out, I even have proof. I recorded that whole video myself with my PSP Camera. Granted, it won't look as good as a standard camera, but I don't have one, so this is fine for me.

They'll fix it, Japan always gets the defected things, then companies redistribute certain items to them again.

They will probably get this fixed before they ship it out, a simple process and if there is not many released so far they could even return them for people ^^..

People have cameras so I never understood why people want them on the PSP ?

Wrong. The PSP Camera has been out in Japan since November 2, 2006. The DS Camera came out very recently and I think it is only usable with that face training game anyway, I believe. The quality of the pictures is amazing for 1.3 megapixels, and this camera was also released in Europe and Australia in May, anyway. Another reason this article is bullshit. Also, I don't have a camera, so this is extremely useful to me. Tidus04, I'm not sure what you're saying by getting it fixed, as nothing was wrong with it in the first place.

Well People want cameras on their PSP because its easier instead of taking them on a digital camera then uploaded them on the computer and then to the PSP.

Unless from my understanding the PSP camera you wouldn't have to do that much.

True, but the digital camera will make up for it with quality. Oh well, the camera looks good for such a small thing.
