On his blog Junichi Masuda revealed that all Pokémon from previous generations will not appear in the Pokémon Black and White until the completion of the games.

Masuda and the development staff had players inside and outside of the company sample the game. Comments included:

  • "It's like playing something completely new, similar to when I played Red & Green"
  • "You don't even know the type of the Pokemon, so you're surprised at the skills"
  • "There are only Pokemon that you've never seen, so it's fresh and new"

The impressions have been good, says Matsuda, but desiging the Pokemon has been tough. Still, the GameFreak graphics staff say that they're happy if players enjoy themselves.

An interesting choice, though previous games usually had minimal old pokemon anyway.

Hooray. That means brand new Pokemon, no more freakin' Geodudes and Zubats! Until end game that is.

It's an interesting choice to do and it's something that has got me interested in the games at least. About time too.

No more annoying Zubats or Tentacools! Huzzah!

but now their will be even worse zubats

Honestly though I don't like it, their was always variety by adding some poke's from the previous gen.

As long as their are more fire pokemon other than the starter, I don't care what they do with the previous gen pokemon.

Geodudes are cool though! Well, at least, they're good tanks, especially early on. High HP and defense, and good enough attack. Lots of normal types (and normal type attacks) early on, so a good Geodude is very useful early on.

Still, I like this idea actually.
