Sony's PSP is a great handheld, but it hasn't appealed to many gamers. This second, "redesigned" PSP doesn't look too different from the first set from the looks of it, but we've found out some more details, both good and bad.

We're sure by now you know the basics, like faster load times and that slimmer shell, but hackers will be hackers, and a certain 0okm has unearthed a few more tidbits of info from the new PSP's user manual that's conveniently hosted by the FCC.

  • The new PSP features is based on a TA-085 PCB, which doesn't mean a lot to us, but gets those homebrew folks looking in the right direction.
  • RAM has been doubled from 32MB to 64MB.
  • You can charge the PSP over USB.
  • There's a 1200mAh battery, rated at 3-6 hours, compared to the original PSP's 1800mAh battery with the same rating.
  • You can't use an original PSP remote with the new PSP.
  • The component AV cable is sold separately. Don't look so shocked.
  • There's a WLAN switch on top.

We'll admit it, we feel silly coveting this thing. Like the DS Lite, the PSP Lite is the same old PSP with a svelte new bod and yet, we're powerless to resist its charms. That new video-out functionality is pretty amazing though ... yeah, that's it.

The increment in battery and RAM size are great additions to be hearing here, though speed at the moment I am finding to be good. The additional speed will just make it sweeter. As for buying it and getting rid of my others just for this I doubt it.

I think the coolest update out of them all is the ability to update via USB, that's badass.

More ram though? Now I feel let down, I mean are there going to be new PSP games that don't run very well on the new 64mb hardware? That would make me really sad because I love my homebrew PSP.

Looks pointless to get IMO. Only thing useful is charging using USB and battery. Thats it.
