At this years Sony Premier Event in Tokyo, Namco Bandai have stated that they will be releasing an online version of Tekken 6. The arcade version should be released later this year while the HOME version will appear on the PS3 sometime in 2008.

Historically, the online universe isn't a popular place for fighting games. However, with Virtua Fighter 5 going online for the Xbox 360, it seems Namco Bandai's competing PS3 fighter, Tekken 6, needed to step up and equal the announcement. And...that's exactly what they did at yesterday's PlayStation Premier event in Tokyo.

According to Impress Watch, the publisher revealed that - much like Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection Online - Tekken 6 will indeed feature online play. Furthermore, it's only one of several new gameplay modes that will appear in the highly anticipated title. As of now, the arcade version is scheduled to arrive some time later this year, and it the home version should appear on the PS3 in 2008. When, we have no idea, but at least we know online compatibility is part of this glorious fighting package.

Smacking the snot out of someone ten thousand miles away certainly is an appealing thought, isn't it?

They'd be stupid not to include online mode. Just about all fighting games are doing it...hell all games have something from online now-a-days. Plus, with the release of Tekken 5: Dark Ressurection going online, why not it's sequel?

Anyways, can't wait to beat people with Law

I sure hope lag won't be an issue... I always get really pissed off when I lag out in an FPS game online and I end up getting killed almost instantly.

Then again, maybe it won't be terrible since it's a 1v1 kind of game, not a huge 20v20 one.

Lag is usually a problem for fighting games. Hopefully Tekken 6 will do better and be as smooth as can be.
