No Online Co-op For Halo 3 (Now With Images)

Krunal | July 18, 2007 | News | XBOX 360
Halo 3 is considered Microsoft's prized game, that is said to boost the sales of the console expenentially. However, it seems that GamerSquad have gotten news that Halo 3 WONT be playable online.

Multiplayer will still be an option via LAN and Split-Screen, however when it comes to playing the game over XBOX Live, it seems that Bungie are struggling to get the game running "niggle-free" over the Live service.

"We're not dumb," explained Bungie's Frank O'Connor. "We know that people want it and we're trying to make it happen. I think the biggest problem for us for online co-op is that we have a situation where you can be in a Warthog with five troops, almost a mile away from the other player. That's a significant challenge. And there's lots of design things you could do to prevent that from happening, but they would make it not feel like Halo anymore. If we can make it happen in a way that works well, we will - and if it works badly, we won't."
The news was revealed in the latest version of the EGM magazine, which also gave details on new weapons (Flare, Brute shotgun, Gravity Hammer) and transport (Hornets & Elephants).

[update] We have also managed to get our hands on not one, not two but 29 scans from the game (courtesy of GameTrailers), which will allow you to read the article yourself, and decide for yourself if the new additions to the game are worth the fact that there will be no more online coop mode.

To take a look at the screenshots, simply take a look at the Halo 3 Portal

This is a pity. I really enjoyed playing Halo co-op. Didn't Halo 2 skip on it too?

They really need to bring it if they're going to impress more than games like Resistance have. 16 player online deathmatches are a thing of the past.

Co-op would have been the one reason for me to get this game, could have been a blast. Well, there is co-op offline, so maybe there's hope yet.

To be honest, as Live would be a big reason for getting this maybe they could hold it back a bit say a month or however long they would need to so they can get Live play as that is the BIG reason for getting this game.

They will probably just release a later version so you waste your money first ¬¬

who cares if you cant play co-op on live, you've still got split screen and lan, i seriously doubt that its gonna ruin the whole game if it doesn't have it.

Hopefully they will be able to find some solution. I was really wanting to play this online co-op with my friends since they won't be nearby to do it with me, as we'll be in different locations when the game is released.

Take that Microsoft ! (( Sorry, had to say it ))

It is quite a blow for Halo fans though. Part of the joy of Halo 2 was the playing it online and this game is looking even more impressive than that ...
They may be able to sort something out ??

So... Seeing as this isn't even about the online gameplay where you do ranked or unranked matches and play Capture the Flag or just Deathmatches, right?

Why does anyone care in the slightest bit if you can't do an online co-op mode? Invite your friend over and play together that way. Big deal.

What if I wanted to play with someone on Neo? We all don't exactly live in the same regions.

If Sony (well Insomniac) could do it with Resistance: Fall of Man on the PSN, and XBOX Live is meant to be a BETTER service, then why is there even a problem

It's not the service causing the issue, it's the game itself.

LOL hahaha well thats the icing on the cake, so much for halo being the Sony killer and this will probably be there downfall.

However don't get me fooled though, I like halo, but if they choose not to use co-op it may smell trouble for some halo fans.

My suggestion is they hold back the game until they fix the problem. Similar to what tidus04 said.

"However, it seems that GamerSquad have gotten news that Halo 3 WONT be playable online."

That's the most mis-leading sentence ever. It's only the co-op that's not going to be playable so far. Don't forget that they also haeve the option to put online co-op in a patch after the game's release.

"Online co-op still not confirmed or denied, System link and Splitscreen confirmed. Frankie stated they are working on online co-op, but if they dont get it right, it wont be in. He also added that if it does not get in, it is *possible* to add in through downloadable content, allthough that was also not confirmed incase they dont get it in."

I love it when you guys post articles with titles that are totally misleading.

Wow. Why exactly did my post get a thumbs down?

This website is really *bleep*ed when it comes to gaming news. I'm sorry, but you can't really expect the quality to be high when you have half-brain idiots posting what they think is news and adding their personal twists to it.

Welcome to journalism. Same with news (everyone remember all the shit the news media threw at the authorities with the Virginia shootings?). At least the article is there, just a matter of thorough reading.

Halo 3 is going to be like Halo 2, with a chance of being worse.

Doubt it. So far the series is getting better. Halo 2 is better than Halo in some ways, so hopefully it will be the same for Halo 3. It is a disappointment though, if Halo 3 doesn't have on-line co-op. Many people are looking forward to this. Even if Bungie don't add co-op on-line, Halo 3 is still going to be a big hit in stores.
