The Wii is just going all the way, never seeming to stop. It's up to 9 million sold now, just a million behind the leader, the Xbox 360. Going over to the handhelds, the DS is still slaughtering the PSP with 45 million sold, the PSP selling less than half at 22 million.

It's official: there is no stopping Nintendo's momentum. As if it was just yesterday since the Wii reached 8 million, Ninty's product of innovation and waving sticks have finally arrived at the 9 million milestone - just a million away from Xbox 360.

On the handhelds side, the DS continues to dominate with almost 45 million units sold. Sony's PSP, while behind by a huge margin, still experience healthy sales as it got past the 22 million mark.

Xbox 360: 10.08m (0.41m Japan 6.50m America 3.16m Others)
Wii: 9.05m (2.98m Japan, 3.64m America, 2.42m Others)
PS3: 3.69m (1.00m Japan, 1.58m America, 1.11m Others)

DS: 44.97m (18.14m Japan, 13.11m America, 13.72m Others)
PSP: 22.15m (5.75m Japan, 8.63m America, 7.78m Others)

Interesting to hear that Nintendo are doing so well and at the moment I think they will be the best sales for this terms Next Gen consoles, though I would not acturally get either of them myself xD

Yay for the Wii! I'm glad it is so popular. Sales should definitely spike up near the end of August too.

It's official, there must be a Wii 2 PSP sold 22 million? I thought it was much lower, good for them. Wow, a good amount of Japanese gamers have a DS

Wii 2? I don't think so. If so, they won't be making it for a very, very long time when they think up of some other type of gameplay like how they used the Wiimote, Numchuck and Balance Board. Or they'll just keep adding features on for the Wii.

Wow, so close to the 360 sales already? Absolutely amazing, just a matter of time until it surpasses the 10 million mark too. Keep it up Nintendo, you sure are doing a grand job so far.

At this rate they'll catch up with 360 by the end of August, and surpass them early to mid September.

Wow the PS2 is 6.39 million behind the 360? YIKES! That's a heck of lot of catching up to do. It will be interesting to see who dominates the holidays. I predict the Wii will win that battle with the PS3 near and the 360 picking up the rear.

Good news for Sony AND Nintendo. Keep up the good work. My two favorite companies selling more than my hated M$.

Yeah, I think the Xbox 360 has pulled to a stop. Everyone who wants Halo 3 probably has the console already and that's the most anticipated game for the Xbox 360 or possibly overall. The Wii and PS3 just needs to creep up to their stalled competition.

I wouldn't say the 360 stopped, at least not permanently. It did lose most of it's momentum with the other two consoles coming out, but it is sure to spike up this fall with a number of big games coming out. I'm still waiting for the 65nm CPU to hopefully avoid some overheating issues. It was around 10 million for the last few months, so it did really didn't sell much over that time. I think it will pick up soon, though.

I'm surprised the Wii is already at 9 million. I didn't expect it to catch up to the 360 until this winter at the earliest. I'm surprised it is already almost there. By the end of August/early September, I think it will sell over 1 million units. It's already sold insanely well, and with Madden 08 and the biggest title so far, Metroid Prime 3, coming out then, it should give sales a nice push. It's still hard to find around here, so either Nintendo must shove out some more units or wait.

The DS is still selling surprisingly well. I'm quite happy with mine, so I can see why. Very unique handheld, very enjoyable.

9 million already? Wow. That's pretty surprising for me but good work Nintendo! Hopefully it beats the 360. XD

I also noticed that the Japanese don't take the 360 very lightly according to the above stats lol.

It took them what two months to get to 8 million. Honest I forget when. Anyways pretty good Nintendo. I say sometime in September we'll see the Wii get to 10 mil and then maybe October were it takes over.

I could see the Wii passing the 360 by the end of the summer.

Seriously, almost 10 million consoles sold in 8 months is amazing.

Xbox 360 had the first-releaser to be above the others, but now Wii and PS3 are going to domiante it, though PS3 doesnt look so promising.

I'm not really surprised Nintendo is still doing phenomenal. It won the last console war way back in the day. The Wii will hit at least 10 million by November.
