Want to know why Microsoft is doing so badly in Japan? Japanese Internet forum 2channel lets you know why. Although most of the reasons given are fan boyish statements from Microsoft haters, there are some credible explanations pointing towards the advertising campaign Microsoft had in Japan.

It's a fact: Microsoft Japan is having a rough time. Sales of the Xbox 360 are consistently low. There are the occasion bright spots in which games like Blue Dragon or THE iDOLM@STER move a few extra machines. But, all and all, it's not enough really. In an E307 interview with Famitsu, former Xbox honcho Peter Moore said, "Why doesn't the Xbox 360 sell in Japan? I want to ask you." Well! Japanese internet forum 2channel weighed in with its opinion.

Finalblade's not a Microsoft fan? I would have never guessed...
Microsoft is more about shooters, and Japan in general's more about Japanese RPGs and such...which PS2 had an overflow of. That's the biggest reason, really. The genre of games.

where in my post did i say that. You have no idea about what i like do you. Stop assuming stuff you don't know.

I said Japan just doesn't like MS this has nothing to do with me, did you even look at the link 2chan said what i quoted not me.

Hah. Stop assuming stuff I don't know. Yeah, why don't I look at just about all your posts on GameGrep and your bashing of Microsoft, your praising of Sony...yeah...I'm sure no one ELSE see's that, or wants to see that, because they too might be in the same Sony praising, Microsoft hating boat.

I did look at the link, and think that crap like 'it stinks like Sega Saturn stinks" is one of the most idiotic comments ever. I said that about you because you said "oh, nothing hit's home like this" gimme a break >_> The 360 has it's problems, but it does have some things that makes it a decent console, like Live, and fun shooters.

Yes i did say nothing hits home like this, but what does that mean exactly to you, to me its like saying nothing its hard like this, it was a general statement not bashing.

Oh and Turmoil911 yes i do say that but again that's is facts, it is poorly constructed. Everyone knows that so from that point it makes both of you bashing me for no reason.

And besides most people state that too, and i don't see them getting the far share of bashing. You like to pick and choose your targets. For instance Guticb says this as well and he gets bashed but he's got a point. I do the same, im not bashing MS i only saying im not going to get a faulty system, Since 33% is alot even from stores like Ebgames and such, not including the percentages going to MS headquarters. Im stating points, but hey keep thinking im bashing MS, its only going to make you look foolish in the end.

At most you can say im bashing MS is saying they bribe people and thats it. Thats what i feel say what you like but thats the only time i said anything remotely offense to them.

finalblade98, virtually every sentence I'll seen you make with the words "Mircosoft" or "Xbox 360" included the words "faulty". I've had my Xbox 360 for well over a year and nothing has ever happened to it.

The Japanses just hate Americans even there technology, they like the Wii and PS3 more because they are made in Japan.

Although the lack of RPG's certainly have something to do with it

Well it's about games, you know? PS,XBOX etc are good consoles. What really matters is the games. I agree with Silver Mirror..

Sigh, you're blinded by 95% of your comments on GameGrep, then. I don't understand how ignorant some of your comments can be. You're always taking Sony's side, give it up, they aren't perfect, neither is Microsoft. They all have their ups and downs.

And surely you never owned a 360 in the first place, so why bash something from what you've heard rather than what you've experienced for yourself?

          Final Blade Jul 24, 07
I don't need to own it, i played games on it from my friends house so i actually experience it loads of time. like i said above keep thinking im bashing it.

Lame arguement, the Ps3 was made in China correct but they mean in referance to the whole Playstation creation as in, the building and plands of creation ect.. *sigh*

Production costs are cheaper in China, which is why almost EVERYTHING is made in China. But the ideas and whatnot are made in Japan. They just make the parts in China to save money.

No jeterocks, Sony is from Japan and so is Nintendo. Sony corporation was founded in japan in 1947, so it makes sense that its a Japaneses company. And like what charizard47 said, production costs are cheaper in china which is why they have parts from them. MS xbox is made from china to be exact, so really Japan really hates Chinese games, this has nothing to do with Americans, however i can see them not liking there stuff as well.

It's partially because Moicrosoft is an American based company, were as Sony is a Japanese based Company.

Japan is hardcore RPG fans like Final Fantasy, Monster Hunter and Pokemon while the Xbox 360 focuses on the shooter and more action packed side of life.

I think the problem is the Japanese always plays Pokemon, final fantasy games etc.

Were they families playing on the wii too? Kids and their parents? That would be neat-o. Beacuse i'm curious what the adult reaction to "games" are in Japan vs. usa

Yea so Nintendo wii is made from japan, MS may be an U.S corporation but xbox was made from china. Maybe they don't like MS taste in game selections.

The parents just sat on the couch and drank beer while we played with the Wii. We asked the dad to play but he denied as well as the mom. The Japanese have a name for those who like video games and manga, they are called otaku. Half American translation would be a geek.

    black_wing79 Jul 20, 07
actually otaku is just someone who is obsessed with anime and manga, and usually any other boyish fantasy.. but if you are not obsessed you are'nt called an otaku.

    Raziel_326 Jul 20, 07
That applies if you're Japanese. An american would be considered as "Wapanese."

"Do do do" is the song that's playing in the background of the clip. XD

My input in the conversation - I don't really think that Microsoft being an American company has much to do with the 360's lack of success over there, AT ALL.
I highly doubt Japanese gamers would not choose a console simply because it isn't made by the Japanese, just like we don't reject Sony or Nintendo simply because they are not American.

But the 360 is mainly known for it's Shooters, which is not one of the most popular genres in Japan (as some people have already mentioned).
Sony and Nintendo appeal more to Japanese gamers because they are more well known for genres that are popular in Japan. (e.g. RPGs, Fantasy games, Party games, etc.)
... though, I suppose the fact that PS3 and Wii are made by Japanese people might help ... they can relate better to the Japanese public, moreso than Microsoft can.

Japanese hate the 360 because it doesn't have the word "Nintendo" on it. Simple as that.
