PS3 vs. Xbox 360 vs. Wii: The Current Breakdown

xsynergyx | July 20, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 Wii
Yahoo, has broken down three pages to briefly state on each system on whether to get it or forget it and then they give a final verdicts for each system.

The PS3's "get it's" are for Blu-ray and exclusives and "forget it's" are expensive and limited software library. The Xbox 360's "get it's" are for online functions, software selection and hardware capabilities and "forget it" for software titles. The Wii is a "get it" for software library, classic Nintendo franchises, unique control method and strong multiplayer for the whole family. "Forget it" for graphics and sound, no big-platform releases and no fully functional online games.

Overall, they all have good and bad things for them, but you decide.
The battle for your free time is well underway -- here's how the fight between the three major consoles is playing out.

Sony PlayStation 3
Price: $499

  • Tantalizing exclusives

Forget it?
  • Most expensive
  • Current software library still limited

Top 2007 PS3 Exclusives:
  • Heavenly Sword
  • Ratchet and Clank Future
  • Haze
  • Lair

In a sentence: We're withholding judgment on the price cut until its long term status is clear, but the PS3 is looking more and more desirable by the day.

Microsoft Xbox 360
Price: $299
Get it?
  • Superb online functions
  • Broadest software selection
  • Strong hardware capabilities

Forget it?
  • Lacks genuinely original software titles

Top 2007 X360 Exclusives:
  • Halo 3
  • Project Gotham 4
  • Mass Effect
  • Eternal Sonata

In a sentence: The Xbox 360 is really showing its maturity this year, bringing a nigh-unbeatable lineup of promising games to holiday shoppers.

Nintendo Wii
Price: $249
Get it?
  • Original software library
  • Classic Nintendo franchises, past and present
  • Unique control method irresistible to non-gamers
  • Strong multiplayer and family library

Forget it?
  • Inferior graphics and sound
  • Misses out on most big cross-platform releases
  • Full-featured online games still a pipedream

Top 2007 Wii Exclusives:
  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl
  • Metroid Prime 3
  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Nights: Journey of Dreams

In a sentence: The only place to get that unique Nintendo experience, the Wii is poised to captivate even more households this year.

Indeed. Since when was the 360 in for a price cut $300? Oh...core version, who'd be dumb enough to get that?

Yeah, they put NiGHTS as one of Wii's most anticipated titles.

And European Wii's have had full online support in Mario Strkers for several months.

It's lookin' like it's goin' fine... but seriously, Wii needs to drop price to keep up with the competitors.

The Core is $299, the Pro is $399 and the Elite is $479.99.

    Get your facts straight.

It just goes to show you how much I think the core package doesn't even exist... I saw the price at 300 and I literally contorted my eyebrows in confusion. I forgot you could buy a 360 for 300, but without a HDD it makes the console practically worthless.

If Microsoft wanted to kill Sony they would cut the Core and drop the Pro to 300. That would be devastating.

Wii price drop would be awesome, and they can afford it too, they've got like 7 year old technology in that god damn thing in the first place.

There won't be a Wii price drop until demand dies down for Wii.
