Bandai Namco announced four new titles in development bearing the "Tales" logo, including the sequel to the Gamecube/PS2 title Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Symphonia: Ratatoskr no Kishi for Nintendo Wii.

It's that time of the year again! Every so often, Bandai Namco gathers members of the press in Tokyo to confirm that all those peculiar "Tales of" names that have leaked through patent filings are indeed real games. The latest announcement meeting was held in Tokyo today.

Blogging live from the event, Japan's Gemaga reports that four titles were announced across a variety of platforms. However, the emphasis appears to be on the Nintendo side.

Following up on last year's Tales of the Tempest, DS owners can look forward to another original Tales game, Tales of Innocence. Developed by Alfa Systems, the title will see Japanese release towards the end of this year.

Wii isn't going to let the DS have the fun all to itself. Did you enjoy Tales of Symphonia on the GameCube or (later) the PS2? Then you'll want to check out Tales of Symphonia: Ratatoskr no Kishi. A direct sequel to Symphonia, this Wii-only title takes place in the same world, but two years later. A Japanese release is set for Spring 2008.

Sony systems are also getting some Tales, only through older titles. Tales of Destiny will be released on the PS2 as Tales of Destiny Director's Cut. Meanwhile, PSP will get a version of Tales of Rebirth. Both are set for Japanese release in early 2008.

We'll have more on the new Tales announcements in a bit, so RPG fans be sure and check back!

Tales of Symphonia was one of my favorite games for the Gamecube, I can't wait till they bring out the sequel!

A Symphonia sequel? That's reassuring, but hopefully it will be by the same team that did the first game (as well as the awesome Tales of the Abyss). i.e. it won't be done by the Tales of Legendia staff. But who knows, maybe the Legendia team could make miracle the second time around.

Did someone forget to mention "Tales of Legendia" there? XD

Unless Namco does some drastic changes to the Tales series, I don't think I'll be convinced enough to buy the upcoming Tales games for PS2 and DS. ToL and ToA were somewhat of disappointments to me

Wow....I never thought this day would come. I never expected there to be a sequel. Everyone didn't see it coming and this just happened. This totally made my day. I'd be pretty disappointed if this was a Japan exclusive.

I have to say, the ToS sequel is quite ugly. It's kind of hard to tell the difference between the DS and Wii games, graphically ...

I hope they improve upon that, as I am guessing this is an early build. I am interested in the Wii game, but I want to find out more about it. I loved Tales of Symphonia. Also, Tales of Innocence looks fun. I heard that Tales of the Tempest, the previous DS game, was underwhelming, so I really hope this one isn't. I want a good real-time RPG for the DS.

Well, it's just a low quality screenshot. It actually looks worse than GC ToS. That's a downgrade. Hopefully we can see the main cast a lot in this new game instead of just the occasional cameo.

Apparently, Namco is saying that they have beefed up the graphics from the GC build, but it isn't very obvious in that screenshot. I too believe that this is an early build, since the game isn't expected for another year in Japan.

I love TOS! The battle style was unique, but I didn't like the plot much, maybe it'll have a better plot this time.

This will be something to look out for, I have always wanted to play the TOS game, I just hope they dont follow the same story and carry on from each other though I am doubting that a bit ^^

Hm, looks interesting. A sequel to Tales of Symphonia. Can't wait! Even though I haven't played the games, I have heard good things about it.

I think I'll pass. Games like that don't really fit me.

    it needs.

    1. Violence (or Fun, this doesn't look like it)

    2. it can't be ghey looking

    3. and it can't be like kingdom hearts.

Oo well if you don't like Kingdom Hearts type games, then I don't think the Tales series will be for you - although if you do get the opportunity to play them I would strongly suggest that you give them try ^^

    *Faints*

    Tales of ... of Symphonia ... 2 ... 2 !?!?!
OMAGOD ! I'm speechless and it looks amazing ...my only complain is the new point-and-click overworld map. It eliminates part of the exploring if you ask me, but I'm not going to let it put me down at the moment, its still years off
