Shogmaster of the NeoGaf forums had come up with a nifty little handheld idea for Nintendo's next handheld. He nicknamed it the Nintendo TS (Touch Screen, Twist Screen, Tate Screen). He had some cool sketches and models for the idea and even had an idea for backwards compatibility.

The pic of it looks tight.

That is a damn good idea. Maybe he got this from the whole iPhone bit, turning it to it's side for a movie or something, heh. Guess I'll wait until next year for a DS to see if this plan is taken into consideration.

Seems like all that twisting would be bad for the system. Still and interesting design though.

That's what I was thinking. If it twists, the buttons would be pushed in, unless there is a space inbetween or it mechanically goes down when you close it and up when you bring it up. If not, eventually, when the buttons come out, they'll be stuck down.

Err... no.. too many moving parts adds to risk of more failures.
Clam Shell was the best Idea Ninten had for portable. I didn't get the PSP because I knew the screen would get scratched. My DS is nicely protected and I don't have to worry about the screen.

Besides, The next portable should also have Wii-similarities like motion sensing!

I don't see how twisting the screen is much of an innovation for provocative gaming. It's just aesthetic boost, without design and game play advances.

and actually, GAMEINFORMER has an article snippet about SONY having the same Idea for a twist-screen PSP. So... Who's Idea Was it!???

First, read aforementioned: motion causes bad things.
Second, how does the twisty screen fit o'er the buttons?
Third, it has too much similarity to the DS Lite.

More like too much similarity to a sidekick. Looks like shit to me. DS Lite is perfect as it is.

Well its a good idea but won't be great if it does happen like FRoGBuster said.

Anyway i hope sony brings out new ideas on the PSP-2 hopefully they are making one, it better have a touch screen since its made from immersion. And they have a business going lol.

Looks like the iPhone, with a cover. Very futuristic.

I think this looks like a bad idea. The screen is unprotected, and the buttons for the DS compatability look problematic.

I don't like it, it's weird and how on Earth do you close it up? It looks very complicated to me. I doubt they will ever bring it out.

essentially, I say it is the DS lite with a twisty screen + 2 touch screens.

Click the source and read it. It's NOT a real design! Somebody in the forum just got bored one night and thought up an idea of his own design. This is NOT an official design by Nintendo.

Nintendo's new handheld should be compatible with the Wii or, use motion sensing in a different way. (i.e. if you tilt the handheld, you move right or dodge, etc.)

Ok, that by far is the worse one I've seen. I can't even explain it...DS design is way better and it's too complicated.

It doesn't look bad, but it's kinda weird. I just hope it doesn't break easily or anything like that...

    I need more information though.

Eh, even if Nintendo considered it, it would be too hard. Twisting here and there. Glad to hear Nintendo didn't really think of it.

That looks really good, but I doubt that we'll be seeing anything like it anytime soon unfortunately.
The DS is still in full swing at the moment, with games coming out for it every few hours, so I doubt they'll start developing a new handheld console when they don't really need to, to be honest.

Its nice that there keeping everything backward compatible though ^^
