Call of Duty Black Ops could be the biggest game in history. Never heard that claim made about a Call of Duty Game before. Find out why it could be on Ripten.

Yes you read right, and yes I know of Modern Warfare 2, but Call of Duty: Black Ops is slated to become one of, if not the biggest launch in all of video game and entertainment history.

Pretty safe article considering all stats released already are saying that even with 4 weeks until release Black Ops is already outselling MW2 by quite a margin. If MW2 was the biggest launch in history than this will be.

They said the same thing with Modern Warfare 2 though as well. I am surprised Black Ops is doing THIS well though, after everything Modern Warfare 2 went through...

It's because Black Ops =/= MW2. CoD4 was brilliant and people can see it, Black Ops has that glimmer of awesome in it. It's more skill based for one. MW2 just devolved into complete bullshit/noobtubing and other unsavory crap.

Yeah. MW2 was so dunked in glitchers, modders, and general cheapness that the game could hardly be played. I know Treyarch will keep a bigger lid on it but since they didn't do a beta it worries me a little bit with this.

They have got a beta it's just not public they have an internal beta consisting of Treyarch, Activision and employee's of it's subsidiaries that is thousands of people. You may think well a public beta would be millions, but when you keep it internal you can roll out fixes and patches much quicker, if a fault is found it could be patched within hours and the new code is already being played. External testing is great, but Treyarch are and have been extensively testing this game for the last 8 months.

Well that is a relief. Good to know this game will be a lot better for the straight edge players.

This is what happened with MW2, and look how that turned out. The fact is, without a public beta you really aren't getting the information you need. The way the developers play the game is not equal to how thousands of little 12 year old's will play it come launch day. You give them anything that could be abused and you can bet that it will.

    please rename the title

and it's pretty obvious that MW:BO is gonna be the biggest game launch ...

This game is benifiting greatly from MW2. 98% of the folks that bought that game will get this one as well, in addition to new players to the series, etc..

It's like FFVII's effect towards the sales of FFVIII, one of the quickest selling FF's around. Why? Because FFVII was so popular.

Every Call of Duty game outsells the previous title, so this article really isn't telling us anything new. The franchise has been on a massive rise in sales since COD4; the only debatable rise is in quality.

It's still just a shooter to me. I personally don't think much of when COD gets high sales. It's not unique by any stretch.

Show me a unique IP get massive sales and then I'll be impressed.

CoD was never spectacular. CoD4 was the best game by far but it wasn't even that good. CoD is just an overrated overhyped series that 12 year olds orgasm over imo.

The article is probably right though. Everyone I know in real life is pre-ordering Black Ops, even the people who never game >>. Plus there's so much hype over it because Treyarch is deving.

Some CoD's were pretty awesome. United Offensive, the expansion to the first CoD, was epic in every way. CoD2 raised the bar quite a bit, as well.

After that things went a little downhill. And as for the unique argument...that's a little stale. For one, many, many titles aren't unique anymore. Look at Pokemon, that's a highly repetitive series and yet people eat it like nothing.

There's a definitive line between what's quality and what's successful. There are so many games that were rated highly and are regarded as some of the best, yet faced financial hardship on their release. It's a matter of perspective.

True, and the term for those titles is: Underrated. But this doesn't only apply to games. Movies, music, and other forms of entertainment also go through these differences.

I agree though, it's really what the consumer is interested in, and as popularity of some titles pass, so will sales. I suppose when MW first came out, it was marketed well and was one of the few major shooters of it's kind out during the Fall season.

That shouldn't really be much of an issue as until footage of Black Ops came out Treyarch were still one of the most hated development teams in the industry. They have somehow turned that around, but there isn't much hype because Treyarch are making it if anything that is still the one thing that people are still cautious about.
