Capcom's Japanese publisher said that the Playstation 3 sales were "sluggish" and then they went for Sony's hand held and claimed that the PSP hasn't sold the numbers that they expected from the system. This provides key insight as to why the developer has been moving to the multi-format developing with games such as Devil May Cry and it may mean more loss of exclusives for the PS3 in the future.

In a belated translation of Capcom's Q&A following the company's latest financials, the Japanese publisher labelled PlayStation3 sales as "sluggish" and in a double-pronged attack claimed the "PSP hasn't achieved the numbers expected."

Perhaps a reminder of why the Japanese publisher has adopted a multi-format development policy regarding titles such as Resident Evil and Devil May Cry, it's worth noting that Capcom have created one of the most successful titles to appear on the PSP in the shape of the Monster Hunter series.

I'm not really sure what you expect. PS3 is not doing well, that is a fact. Whether that will change in the future or not isn't clear yet, but for now Capcom has to do what businesses do, sell their products to the largest number of people. They just simply can't afford to wait out Sony's master plan.

"Its never really enough for them is it."

They're not the only company, though. And Gutic, I'm sure it's more than just sluggish sales.

What could their possibly be besides that? Capcom really is just a money hungry company, I mean they even cut their highly creative and promising sub company Clover Studios. Responsible for such acclaimed games as "Viewtiful Joe" and the more recent "Okami." Why did they? Because they didn't make enough money, despite all being highly reguarded. It doesn't stop the makers of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

The Sony platform has done nothing but been there for Capcom. Home to some of their most popular franchises ever.

This isn't the first bitch move by Capcom either, them going to Nintendo to make exclusive Resident Evil games for them and what not out of nowhere. Completely abandoning their fanbase. Resident Evil 4 came so much further after REmake and REZero.

    Sony is the dumb.
They should be helping Capcom survive while still providing PS3 with exclusives.
Negotiate better, lube with cash, offer bonus, seduce with contract.. Something... Don't just let all these companies shift over to weaker systems.

So what if Capcom is going more multiplatform? They are a business, and their goal is to make money. To assume that any company cares what platform they develop for is silly. They'll develop where they think the money is going to be. That is exactly why the PS1 and PS2 got the strong third party support it did.

It's a blow to Sony to lose any kind of exclusive games, but when the current situation doesn't look too favourable to them then it only makes sense to expand out to generate more money.

This shouldn't be a question of sales ... The PS3 is catching up to the sales of the 360 - its main competitor. Already the PS3 has sold 1 million units in Japan and is currently out selling the 360 in North America.
It can't be to do with sales - everyone's just being impatience ...

10.5-11 million 360's sold against 3.5-4 million PS3's sold. They're certainly catching up.

I would not be suprised be if the 360 wins and they start making exclusives for them or vice versa after announcing they are going multiplatform.

Makes no difference to me now that I have 360 and PS3 But Capcom needs to have a bit more faith in Sony, imo...sure things look grim now, but I'm sure that'll pick up next year.

Just like judging the ps3 way too early since it just came out 8 months ago. Thus comparing it to a 2 year console.

It'll be difficult for them to come back to Sony in the future if the PS3 becomes the more dominant console, perhaps Capcom won't be getting so many favours etc.

It's another blow but personally, i'm not a big fan of Capcom games, I can go without their exclusivity,
