To those who played number one and two: Is this really worth it? I know number one's agreed to be really good but from what I've seen this is just a dating sim with some shooting elements...

The game is very deep and the characters are incredibly fleshed out (not all of them though, but there are way better characters in ME2) and it really is just an overall terrific adventure.

The worst thing about the game is the long wait for number 3

ME2's the finest game I've ever played.

It's just utterly incredible, from start to finish.

There's only one dating sim-esque part, and it's hardly satisfying .

But yes, this series is definitely among my favorites. I personally liked the first one more, mostly due to its story and the way you explored non-main story-centric planets. However, the combat is more refined in this one, and the game is overall still one of my favorites.

If you plan on getting the second one for PS3, do yourself a favor and try playing the first one on your PC beforehand. Your choices won't carry over as they should, but it's still worth it for sure.

Either you've spent too much time around /v/ who do nothing but ogle Tali, never played the game at all or some mix of those two.

The character relationship parts are just as much a part of the game as they are in any other Bioware game. While they can give you some bonuses and make your npc partners better they are far from necessary.

Well of course I've never played the game, why else would I ask? And whilst not exclusively /v/ all I've seen from fans is people discussing character relationships, hence the question. Appreciate the feedback all.

Mass Effect is like the classic sci-fi epic in game form. They've certainly done a good job of making a likable cast(Garrus and Wrex are personal favorites) but there are fans who take the relationship stuff out of hand.

That's an extremely biased statement, and I can't tell if you're kidding or not.

The series is what I call a "light" RPG. It's for those people that want a good RPG that doesn't overload you with RPG stuff like Final Fantasy, but want action like a modern shooter. It's a perfect blend and extremely fun. My favorite new IP this gen, highly reccomend it.

I don't think anyone would call it a dating sim. The series has more to it than just that, and I've barely played the games.

I'd better get that 6 hour DLC.
