Twenty years ago, a bandana-rocking badass stepped onto the Nintendo Entertainment System and went to work on bringing down some bad guys at Outer Heaven. His name was Snake, and the videogame world would bow to his presence.
Well, they eventually would. After a couple sequels, Snake receded into the background of gaming culture. While the world moved on, Snake rested. Snake waited.
In 1998, Metal Gear Solid shipped for the PlayStation and turned the industry on its head. Sequels followed, fans turned out in droves and the familiar ring of an incoming Codec call became synonymous with excitement and excellent gameplay.
Tonight, Konami is announcing plans to ring in Snake's 20th year with style. As the announcements and news come streaming out of Japan, IGN will be there -- and if you keep refreshing this page, you'll be there too.
