For the first time in a decade, EA's reign as the top third party game publisher has been taken over. Activision's 397.8 million dollar sale garnered mainly from the sale of its popular 'Guitar Hero' game beat EA's 365.7 million dollars in total software sales this year from the period of january to july 2007.

Little did Activision know that their 100 million dollar acquisition of Guitar Hero publisher RedOctane would one day help to pave their way for their current success.

LA Times reports that Activision became the first independent publisher this decade to dethrone Electronic Arts as the top grossing third-party publisher following $397.8 million in software sales from January through to June 2007 (EA had sales of $365.7 million).

Can't say I'm surprised. They are behind things like Call of Duty and some Marvel games, after all

Yeah, you forget just how much stuff they are working on now but i'd have expected EA to win this still by a long way.

Cool news and good for Activision!

Wow, I thought EA had more, but now that I look at it Activision has a lot of decent games. Good luck for them and thanks for the news!

Activision have the likes of Tony Hawks and for one know them mainly because of this but I did not know they were this big in the gaming market.
