Although E3 price cut speculation regarding the Xbox 360 proved to hold no water, there are rumblings in the retail world that suggest a timely price reduction could be on the way to coincide with some major software releases for the platform.

The Hollywood Reporter claims today that Microsoft will cut the price of the Xbox 360 by $50 USD early next month. Their retail source says that the cut discount will take effect on August 8, traditionally a slow month for console sales.

The timing of the decision could also be even more significant. Just a few days after, Electronic Arts' Madden NFL 08 will hit the shelves, as well as other highly anticipated titles, including Irrational's BioShock and John Woo Presents Stranglehold from Tiger Hill Entertainment.

I still want MGS4... Xbox doesn't have exclusives that draw me to the system.

They've got a ton of exclusives I want, I just can't afford the system.

I hope this is true, because then hopefully they'll drop it another $50 right before Christmas. Then I'll finally be able to afford it.

Ah, here is when i'm getting my new 360, when the price cut happens. 360 elite = Awesome.

Though, I wish it didn't come with all of that. I only need the 120 gig hard drive and the 360 =P. But I guess its a bonus.

I guess they are throwing in all that stuff to show that they don't need to drop it a full $100. Meh, the elite's been having a few problems, I still prefer the Premium.

I can't believe that they are dropping their prices right before their biggest name game, Halo 3, releases.

The timing seems logical though 'will take effect on August 08, during a traditional slow month for console sales.' Maybe if they drop the prices more games will be bought.

I dont think they need one myself to be honest, but I guess they have to try something to keep people buying the console after the recent events.
