According to BethBlogs's Twitter, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is using a new engine from their previous game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

It has also been confirmed on the Bethesda that this engine is a new internally developed engine.

Seeing lots of speculation about #tesv game engine. It's brand new... and it's spectacular!

Now I can feel excited with much less fear of being let down. Although there wasn't much of that to begin with.

    This is great.

Glad it has changed... I will miss killing someone in a field 100 yards from anyone and EVERY city knew I did. Good times right there =D

Bummer, I was hoping they'd use id's engine, since both id and bethesda are under the zenimax umbrella of companies.

Still awesome news though, Oblvion engine was tired once fallout hit. Still great games, but those character models needed something.

Man how amazing would this game look under Id Tech 5? Oblivion with Rage type graphics, It would be unbelievable. But hopefully they are using this new engine for a good reason, that its good enough.

I can't wait to find out whether they have fixed the Ladder and Door bugs which they had with their Gamebyro engine.
