PS3 Too Proud To Bring Classics Back?

Incidnia | July 25, 2007 | News | Playstation 3
It appears that PS3 and Sony are set to go all out with the DLC on their Online Store. They plan to create games from scratch in 1080p and release them on their store in an attempt gain dominance in the online market - with Nintendo and Microsoft's quickly growing (both in content and popularity) marketplace, Sony must bring something to the table. So expect to see completely original titles in HD (rather than that of DOOM and Golden Axe) on the PSN Store.
PS3's new and original downloadable content is what makes the PlayStation Store superior to the re-released retro offerings of its competitors, according to Sony marketing boss, Peter Dille.

Talking of Sony's online strategy, Dille said: "whereas our competition takes a bunch of old content and catalogs content from previous generations and offers that in a download fashion, our development organization are making games specifically for PS3.

Which is what people should do to have a successful business. It's like when Microsoft were practically purchasing contracts/deals to get more titles on their console.

*Ahem* It's called building their library...and attracting more gamers. Open your mind, finalblade, for once, please do so. Sony did something quite similar when the PS was battling Dreamcast.

Oh open your mind will ya Its cause of those reasons why MS is even a company still, let alone have the billions of dollars. Also how good is it doing MS now They lost 6 billion in 6 years cause they lack titles. You know im glad they are doing those things they will fail again like last gen when MS offered Rare 376 million to jump ship. Sony has new exclusives which are new franchises coming this gen, and while the MS is getting hand me downs now(which was great games for the ps2) It would prove not valuable. For once please talk to Existenz cause its apparent you have no idea about Microsoft and what there really about. .

I personally wish they would release more PS1 games over their network. I'm tired of discs!

Would be hella tight if they brought back things like the Tomb Raiders, or GTA1/2. That's on either PSN Store or XBLA.

This is both good and bad, the thing is, people like the old stuff, thats why the Vitual Console and xbox live are so succesful. I mean of course new stuff is great, but neglecting classics is a poor move, I still want Final Fantasy VII in the PSN store.

I dunno, I think it's a good thing they keep going with original Arcade titles. The only PS1 game really worth its money is SOTN IMO, which works flawlessly on my PSP...other than that, I'd rather have games like Calling All Cars than Syphon Filter 2.

Well i think putting more old games on the PSN store would be a great idea.. but it makes sense with what they are trying to do with the PS3. i think i would rather use my PS2 to play the older games then use the PS3 to play them, it just seems to under utilised to play an old game on that console. Of course having the option to play older games is always better, but i guess it still makes sense.

Well in all honesty, why would you want to play those games when they've been outplayed? I mean, I may want to get ahold of some of my old games and play them again, but your attention apsn with that game is a lot less than before.

Well, personally most games that I played younger is now too boring nowadays. Though, DOOM with online capabilities would be sweet.

I also wonder if we have to pay to get the game, i mean old classics. I mean we shouldn't if we bought the discs right but you never know with Sony.

Why don't they do both? That would be good.

I'm pretty sure they got limited resources. After all, it took too long just to bring some PS1 classics to the Store. It takes one PSN arcade title to make up for at least 4 PS1 games IMO.

Thing is classics are becoming harder licence because for the most part Nintendo owns all the rights... Most of the good classics were Sega owned and Nintendo own Sega.

Some of the oldies are classics but I guess they cant always bring them back.. There has to be a time for it to stop, I guess. But I would still like them on the console...
