Mistakes were made with Xbox in Europe, admits Microsoft

Following Microsoft's recent admission that faults inherent to the Xbox 360 will likely cost the company in excess of $1 billion USD, the American software behemoth has now held its corporate hands up and admitted that mistakes meant the European market didn't exactly prosper during the time of the original Xbox.

Japan wasn’t the only region to give the first Xbox a tepid reaction - parts of Europe were similarly hesitant over Microsoft’s opening attempt at a home console. This week, Xbox Europe boss Chris Lewis has admitted that the company made errors with the Xbox, primarily by paying too much attention to serious gamers, and not enough to broadening the market beyond the hardcore fans.

    Wow This is interesting can someone say repeat in history. Its a shame really, you could only imagine whats going to happen this time.

    They didn't even appeal to hardcore gamers! What are they talking about!? With bulky controllers like that and a box that fat, even hardcore gamers had hard time dealing with such a stinky mistake

    Yeah i have to agree with that. but i think the main thing i did'nt like about th Xbox was that it came out so long after the PS2 and had so few games. The PS2 just had so much more value then the Xbox because of the huge base it had in games to play.

    Yeah, there was no way in hell I was buying an Xbox. The only thing that really appealed to me on there was the fact that they got the DoA series, fun fighting game. That team also made the new and improved Ninja Gaiden, which was a hit, no doubt.

    Only 5 games or so intereted me for that console, and surely that wasn't enough for me to get it. I hated it's design, too.

    I never remotely considered it. I'd already bought the PS2 and was enjoying it so much, I never thought about another console.

    I'd say I was a hardcore gamer too. lol

    Nice to see them admitting this I suppose.

    Halo 1 and 2, Ninja Gaiden, Fable, DoA and....... umm........ yeah that was it.

    I would have though it was mainly just Fable and Halo. 2 games can not sell a console.
