from August 1, Microsoft will be dropping the price of their Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-ons from $199 to $179. They will also be offering five free HD-DVDs from a selection of 15 titles through mail, with the purchase of the player.

This appears to be Microsoft's effort to keep up with the PS3's Blu Ray technology. Microsoft's offer will last all the way till the end of September.

In a bid to compete with the rival Blu-ray format adopted by PlayStation 3, Microsoft said that it would be dropping the price of the HD-DVD player beginning August 1 in the US.

From August 1 through the month of September, the company will also be offering five free HD-DVDs from a selection of 15 titles through mail, with the purchase of the player. The offer is an extension of Toshiba’s HD-DVD promotion that was originally exclusive to standalone players

Five free HD-DVDs with purchase...where have I heard this before? Oh right, got a rebate for purchasing the PS3 last weekend for teh same thing, only to get Blu-Rays. $20 isn't a big price drop. I'm not interested in HD-DVD.

Wow if this is there answer to Sony than they truly are desperate and can't compete with them right. How about lowering it $50 less.

Following your sense of business, they might as well give it away for free.

xD, they're screwing over mow. The more news I read, the more disapointed I am at MS. Though, I'm for MS because of Halo and Gears. Other than that, i'd be a PS3 fanboy for the PS3 = just awesome at times. Though, if Microsoft had a better console in general, I'd love them more.

But now, it just looks like there trying to give away this stuff.

One of those five free HD-DVD's had better be 300. Other wise, I refuse to even think about going for this deal.
