The future of magazines lie in digital media. That is the belief of Microsoft in their latest bid to get gamers to read their official Xbox magazine. The Xbox Mag is going onto Xbox Live and will be available for 200 points or USD2.50.

The Official Xbox Magazine is branching off onto Xbox Live, and will be offering its wares in digital form for 200 points an issue (USD$2.50). Smart move. People don't read mags anymore, people don't buy mags for demos anymore, so for Microsoft it's a handy way to get official editorial content and reviews back out to a userbase that's neglecting their traditional methods.

I still buy magazines Barnes & Noble next to the theatre, it's impossible for me to pass that by...or just leave without getting something. This is a good idea, though, I never bought the OXM, and 200 points isn't half-bad.

    I buy magazines too :-\

But $2.50 is cheaper than what is in a store, plus we'll probably get more demos too!

What'll be more impressive is what they were avoiding answering Kevin about at E3: A web browser for XBL.

"That is the belief of Microsoft in their latest bid to get gamers to read their official Xbox magazine." Actually, it's the belief of Future US, which publishes OXM. I don't know if people realize that OXM is created by an independent company, and is not published by Microsoft. We're like EA or Activision -- we pay a licensing fee to use the Xbox 360 logo on our product.

Also, with 400,000 very happy readers every month, the paper magazine isn't being replaced by OXM Digital. It's just an alternate way to get OXM content for people who no longer get their info from print. More will become clear when it's officially announced and a date is finalized.
