Sony not planning additional PS3 price cuts

xsynergyx | July 28, 2007 | News | Playstation 3 Company
Sony's electronics conglomerate's president, Ryoji Chubachi said that Sony has no further plans to cut the Playstation 3's price anymore. Even with the $100 cut, the console is twice as much as the Wii. Analysts say that they need yet another price cut just to match the Wii.
"We've announced the price cut in the US and have no additional plans beyond that at this time," Ryoji Chubachi told Reuters on the sidelines of a gathering of business executives in Shizuoka Prefecture, central Japan.

Sony's PlayStation 3 has been far outsold by rival Nintendo Co Ltd's Wii console in large part because of its lofty price. Even after the $100 cut, the PS3 is twice as expensive as the Wii.

Some analysts have said the $100 cut would not be enough to counter the momentum of the Wii and predicted that Sony would have to lower the price again in the near future.

At least they did cut some of the price and I do think it'll help their sales qutie a bit, but hopefully they will also give us the price cut in Europe, though I already bought mine on the release date for the full £450>.<.

It's a shame that they don't want anymore price cuts. It'll make customers happy and probably boost the sales of the consol quite a bit.

You actually take this as fact. When have they ever told us anything several months b4 it happens. If we knew a price cut was happening in November people will not buy the system until That month. Remember Sony didn't announce the price cut 3 weeks ago until they actually said it that day starting on July 11.

Haha this isn't even blind faith but Sony do lie so anyone that reads this should take it with a Sony sized pinch of salt.

The next day after you buy it, "60GB PS3 is now $400." That would suck, for you. I don't plan on getting one till next year.

    Good!

Its unfair for people who already bought the PS3.

But if the games could get cheaper that would be good!

My guess is that Sony is keeping things secret like with the 60GB price cut. Deny, deny, deny. Perhaps it's to see if people will buy it at the current price, and if not, they'll drop it again.

Well who knows if the 80Gb console with no bundle is $499. I mean by the time the 60 will be phased out it will be November and the holiday season is here and they could lower it again to make the price $399 just a thought.

This is the same thing as announcing that a Price Cut is likely. It means they're thinking about it and have discussed it, decided on a feasabile time, and also decided on the marketing strategy of purposefully coming out to announce that a price cut will not be soon, but what they mean is that it will happen After-soon. So, if you're patient enough to wait a year, then you can save some cash.

Maybe, by the time I get one, it'll be $300, although that's highly unlikely. The Elite may be down to $350 at least by next year.

Haha, things like this are why I have defected from Sony's league of PS fanboys. This proves that Sony thinks that if they sold the PS2, they can sell anything, no matter what the price.
Watch. The PS4 will likely be at least a thousand dollars. Or there won't be a PS4 because of Sony's lack of PS3 sales.

Edit: Fine! I won't post my opinions anymore!

AdamHill makes me laught so much, what a twat ¬¬

But never the less, I do not blame them for not reducing it anymore, like said they are now going to be making a loss on the console and unless other Sony do not wish to do this. Which is fair enough but the only way I see them catching up with the Wii is to except that they need the price drop and to go into negative figures for this to happen unless they think one day the Wii will crash and burn which I can not see happening at the moment.
