Mario took the top spot out of 13,000 people for highest rated video game character`s out of 50 different characters. The top 10 characters are shown here, with there spots, note this is just 13,000 people.

We all have our favorite video game character, right? But what character is the top character of all time? Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer's Edition (out now, $12.99 for ebook, $14.99 for print) chimes in with its Top 10, voted on by more than 13,000 fans on the Guinness website. And Mario takes the top spot.

Nintendo had 11 characters in the Top 50, followed by Sony and Capcom with six and five, respectively. Five characters came from the year 1966, followed by 1987, 2001 and 2007 with four each.

Guinness also has a Facebook app that lets you discover what iconic character suits your personality. The new "Which Character Are You?" app asks 10 game-related questions such as "What Would Be Your Ultimate Power Up?" to determine your alter ego.
