A story that looks at why the rumors of a Dead Island movie are pre-mature and the fact that Deep Silver has not sold the rights just yet, although they are looking at a "major studio" to take on the project.

Since video games publisher Deep Silver revealed the upcoming game Dead Island this week, its accompanying promotional trailer has created a tremendous amount of buzz in the internet community and has been hailed a “Must See” throughout. As a result, Deep Silver has received a massive amount of interest in the film adaptation rights to the Dead Island IP. Contrary to rumors that have been circulating, neither the film rights nor any other licenses have yet been sold by Deep Silver, which is the sole IP holder of the Dead Island brand.

It would be a good idea to sell the rights as soon as possible. I mean comic book films like Kick-Ass succeeded because the comic was essentially written when the screenplay was written, so it was less an adaptation than an original movie concept.

If they sell the rights now so that they can get screenplays written before anyone has truly seen gameplay, then the movie will be better off. I mean most game to movie adaptations try to incorporate the cheesy "fan favourite" elements that work in the game but just look lame in a film.. The less Hollywood know the better chance this film has of being a legitimate success.
