So, have the Xbox 360's been fixed to avoid that Red Ring of Death? The answer is yes. Microsoft is shipping out new Xbox 360 Elite's with an added heat sink to prevent this problem. You can now (or soon) buy the new Xbox 360 Elite's with this added feature, but you won't know for sure because by taking about your Xbox 360 to see if it has the heat sink, you'll void your warranty.
In an effort to boost stability, Microsoft has been putting in an additional heat sink on the graphics chip of refurbished Xbox 360s as of late. Now, that added heat sink is in all new Xbox 360 Elite models being shipped. Ben Heck, modder extrordonaire, took apart his newly purchased Elite to find the change.
This is good news for people thinking about buying an Xbox 360 right now, as the stability problems have been widely publicized.
Im going to take Bens word on this one. Im not about to void the warranty on my Elite and see if I have the new heat sinks.

Regardless, I believe every X360 made after June 2007 has the new heatsinks and the new Falcon chips should be in soon.
I think I'm gonna' lose more money than Sony and Microsoft put together this holiday season.
