So, have the Xbox 360's been fixed to avoid that Red Ring of Death? The answer is yes. Microsoft is shipping out new Xbox 360 Elite's with an added heat sink to prevent this problem. You can now (or soon) buy the new Xbox 360 Elite's with this added feature, but you won't know for sure because by taking about your Xbox 360 to see if it has the heat sink, you'll void your warranty.

In an effort to boost stability, Microsoft has been putting in an additional heat sink on the graphics chip of refurbished Xbox 360’s as of late. Now, that added heat sink is in all new Xbox 360 Elite models being shipped. Ben Heck, modder extrordonaire, took apart his newly purchased Elite to find the change.

This is good news for people thinking about buying an Xbox 360 right now, as the stability problems have been widely publicized.

I’m going to take Ben’s word on this one. I’m not about to void the warranty on my Elite and see if I have the new heat sinks.

You can actually look through the grille in the back and see the extra heatsink.

Regardless, I believe every X360 made after June 2007 has the new heatsinks and the new Falcon chips should be in soon.

Sounds good but I doubt I'll ever get a 360. Still good news for 360 fans though.

Yeah, well that gets rid of one of Microsoft's main problem...unless it doesn't work

That's great. Now is everyone with a faulty 360 going to be upgraded for free, or do we have to pay for more of Microsofts mistakes? Funny how I've just come back from my replacing my 360 for the 3rd time this year.

With the extended warranty, if you experience a "RRoD", then they repair it for free.

I really hope that this issue does get resolved, and this time once and for all. It's annoying knowing people are not giving this great console because of it's unstability (understandable) so hopefully news of this gets out and people may be willing to take the plunge and gamble on a 360.

It is a issue that needs to get sorted in the end and hop fully this will do that. They don't want to be in the same situation as before and lose more money as it fails but I doubt it will with the new changes they have made.

The problem should be fixed then, so when I get a 360 in future I'll be sure to get the Elite over the normal one (unless they fixed it on the normal too).

Now, from this post forward, I will be wanting the Elite even more. I'm planning on getting a new 360 sooner or later, but this is pretty much saying : BUY ME. BUY ME. BUY ME.

Is the 65nm processor coming anytime soon? That, accompanied with a new heat sink, could hopefully eliminate the RRoD. It's really one of the biggest reasons why I didn't buy a 360 yet, although I really want one.

What I'd expect to see is by Christmas '07, the shelves will be filled with the new updated 360's. Possibly when H3 comes out but that's pushing it I believe.

I think I'm gonna' lose more money than Sony and Microsoft put together this holiday season.

I still don't get why they're putting it in the Elites only.
